Baskerville Theme. Why won't the picture gallery be displayed properly anymore?

Why doesn’t the picture gallery display properly on the starting page anymore?
For older posts which I have published as a picture gallery, the pictures won’t be displayed in gallery style any longer on the starting page without me having changed anything to them. http://www.arnicapie.wordpress.com
What can I do to fix it?
Thanks for help. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I think the problem here is that you have those posts set to the gallery format, but they don’t actually contain galleries, just multiple images. Can you try changing the post format for those posts to the Image format instead, or else delete the photos from the post and add them back using the gallery feature specifically.

Hi,
thanks for replying. I have discovered the specific gallery format, but prefer the plainer look of multiple images. The thing is though, it has worked perfectly fine, looking great until about 8 weeks ago or so. Was the a change in the theme or any other change that could have caused the gallery display to stop working? -
I have tested this a bit on my own site, and I see what you are talking about. I’m reporting it to our theme developers so they can see if this can be fixed. I’ll update you here if I hear anything.

Thank so much! Looking forward to an update! Would be more than glad if it can be fixed.
Just beause for astethic reasons I’d prefer sticking to my old way of publishing as prefer longer titels and additional information which I don’t want to be written on top of my image… (as in galleries).
Thanks again heaps! -
Oh, one more thing, I have just noticed…
faulty picture format as well…with posts since 7 Nov, images I have published as “picture format” neither will allow you to click on them to get to the actual post (in full format) nor to view them as a media file in full format. with posts up to the 6 Nov it’ll work fine! Easiest visible in my “artwork” category.
Same it true for pictures within a “standard format” post, but there you have at least the chance to click on the heading to get to the full format post. Easiest visible in my “a word a day” category. Thanks again.

The problem here is your image attachment settings. I’m guessing you’ve been using the new editor? The new editor at this stage doesn’t automatically link images in posts to the full size version of the image. You have to do it manually.
To fix this, edit the post in the new editor. Click on the image, then click the link icon in the editor toolbar. The pop-up window that appears should automatically be filled with the link to the image file. Add the link, and update the post. Then those images should be clickable again as before.
When creating new posts, follow the same process: insert the image, then click on the image and click the link icon.
As for not being able to open the post itself with the image-format posts, that’s normal. Image format posts don’t display a title you can click to open the post, but you can click on the date-stamp at the bottom to do that.
Let me know if you have more questions about this.

Most helpful answer! Thank you so much for your effort; fixed and solved, pictures working fine again. Hoping for an update for the gallery problem earlier.
Until then… Thanks you so much!

I’m glad to hear that.
Our theme developers are still looking into the gallery issue. We’ll update you here when it’s fixed.

Howdy @arnicapie!
We’ve made a change to Baskerville that allows your Gallery post images to show up again.
In the future, it would be good to switch to using proper Galleries, since going forward most themes will rely on those rather than image attachments.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. :)
Cheers,

Thank you so much, looks cool again! I’m very glad about it. One thought on galleries…
I know about the proper galleries, but have deliberately chosen not to use them for aesthetic reasons. In the slideshow gallery for example my picture title will be spelt out on top of my image. So if I have a rather bright picture, it’ll be hard to read and I prefer to have the title below not on top as I use longer titles and provide extra info (material, technique, date, place). The galleries look great for photos, for artwork, however, I personally think, it isn’t the best way to present it. Thanks heaps for your help again and maybe you’d like to consider the thoughts on galleries for further developments.
Cheers, Arnicapie -
@sixhours – so the issue of whether images are attached or unattached to the post is no longer relevant?
