BBPress

I’m looking to set up an online forum, how do I do this? Can I do it with WordPress.com? I’m a bit confused by WordPress.com vs WordPress.org…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t mean to hijack your question, but this is all so unintuitive, and as a developer, I can’t believe I can’t figure out how to login or create a site.
How in the world do you create a bbpress account so I can post in their forums? I tried this over the course of 2 days and just giving up now.

BB press is a plugin for wordpress.ORG software installs. At present there is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/For your WordPress.COM blog you have three free workaround forum options http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2012/04/23/wordpress-com-forum-options/
One approach is to register a forum on the internet and then create a custom menu in your blog and include a custom link to the forum in it.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-linksThe Tlk.io widget allows you to embed a web chat in your WordPress.COM hosted blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/tlk-io-widget/ There are no other chat options I know of that work on WordPress.COM blogs at this time.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/As you are referring to a site that is not hosted here, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Ty, for the response.
So bbpress is .com or .org? Honestly, this is all ubber confusing, and I run a fairly large development company. I can’t even begin to guess how many non-computer savvy people must be having issues / trouble.

I just want to figure out how to create a question in the bbpress forums:
-
Did you go to the bbpress forum page?
I used your link and went to it.
Clicked log in and it didn’t seem to have any way for me to register.
So I saw the word anonymous in the right hand corner with like a little user head icon.
Clicked it and it had a link for register. When I hit that it said
“bbPress.org is part of the WordPress.org Network. If you don’t have an account yet, go make one!”
And that statement had a link to https://wordpress.org/support/register.phpYou might note that going to the WordPress.org register link was covered in timethief’s post above.
I have never used bbpress forums but sounds like you have to register at WordPress.org and use that registration username and login to gain access to the forum at bbpress.
Note: none of this has any connection to this site here at WordPress.
This article might help clarify the differences between WordPress.com and .org
Good luck to you over in the .org world!

Thanks all! I think I’m slightly less confused now, will get myself a .org login and take it from there…
@acepokersolutions – thanks for making me stop feeling like an idiot for not being able to figure it out, relatively speaking I think I fit the non-savvy category compared to you.

The org/ com difference confuses a lot of people. I think I posted my first request for help in the wrong forum.
So you are in ( good?) company. :-)
