Beacon theme

    Hello,
I’ve found out today my website is not working. This is because the Beacon theme I’ve been using has been retired and is not available anymore.
This has come as a complete surprise. Was this change announced? If yes -how and when? Is there any way to restore it, even temporarily to have time to design a new template for my website?

    Thanks, Jacek

    Site: https://jtzewski.wordpress.com.
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi,

I presume that you’re referring to the site https://jtzewski.pl/. Is that correct?

    Hi there!

Please note that we don’t disable themes automatically on sites that are using them when the themes are retired.

I checked your site logs and noticed that the premium theme Beacon was active as part of the WordPress.com Premium plan that you had on your site. The WordPress.com Premium plan was last renewed in September 2017. It then expired in September 2018 as you didn’t renew the plan, and that’s when the premium theme was deactivated (because the premium theme required the WordPress.com Premium plan to be active).

In other words, the theme was deactivated because the premium plan had expired, not because the theme was retired.

We aren’t able to activate the theme on your site anymore. If you’re looking to check the appearance of the site when the Beacon theme was active, perhaps you can check to see if the Wayback Machine has a snapshot of your site.

    Regards

Thank you for the quick reply.

Evidently, I didn’t notice there was no automatic renewal of the WordPress.com Premium plan.
It is however strange that it came into effect only yesterday, i.e. 3 years after the plan expired.

When you are saying you are not able to activate the theme anymore, does it also mean that I cannot use it, even if I rebuild the whole content more or less manually?

Separately, I will look at how to restore the WordPress.com Premium.

    Jacek

  • Hello Jacek,

When you are saying you are not able to activate the theme anymore, does it also mean that I cannot use it, even if I rebuild the whole content more or less manually?

From what I can see here: https://web.archive.org/web/20190205153853/https://jtzewski.wordpress.com/ the Beacon theme hasn’t been active for around three years.

Changing themes, doesn’t remove any of the content so this will remain when a theme changes.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello,

    Interesting…
As said before, I was using the theme up until yesterday, adding new posts and doing some customization via CSS editing.

I understand when/if I reuse the theme, the content will come back. Only some additional editing may/will be needed to rebuild the customizations.

Anyway, I see the theme is still available from its originator’s side. If I buy it that way, will I be able to upload it to WordPress.com?

    Regards,

    Jacek

  • Hello there,

Hmm, were you perhaps working on a different site?

Anyway, I see the theme is still available from its originator’s side. If I buy it that way, will I be able to upload it to WordPress.com?

This is possible, but the site would need to be on the business plan.

    I hope this is useful.

    A… here we are…

    I’m talking the site https://jtzewski.pl/
I migrated there from https://jtzewski.wordpress.com around the year 2017, if I remember correctly….

  • Hi there!

Quick shoutout to @musicdoc1 for noticing the URL initially.

It looks like you are self-hosting jtzewski.pl through SiteGround. In this case, your best bet would be to reach out to the creators of the theme, which I believe can be found at https://prothemedesign.com/theme/beacon/

As you run into additional questions about your self-hosted site, your primary sources of help will be directly with the creators of your theme, your plugins, or from within the WordPress community support forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forums

    Thanks!

I think it all clarifies all!
Sorry for not being precise from the beginning… didn’t notice you were referring to the old website.

    Regards,
