Becoming pro, Upgrading and hosting issues

  I have a wordpress.com blog. I would like to became pro, that is, get my own domain and be able to use plugins, have adverstisement, etc… How can I get this done? Will the content of my blog be lost, including comments ?

  There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot intsall plugins, upload third-party themes or edit templates or themes. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

  There is no upgrade you can purchase from wordpress.com that changes anything stated in these three locations:

  Hi timethief… Yes, I know. I should have been more specific…

  Will I be able to do the things I want if I upgrade to wordpress.org?

  Yes. But moving to WordPress.org is not an upgrade. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate. See moving a blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

  Yes. I have read it.
  I will do the transfer, however I am worried that when moving all the content I might loose readers, because there are many links to my blog on the internet and I get a lot of traffic through them… But thanks for the info.

  If you purchase a site redirect upgrade form WordPress.com then your readers will be seamlessly redirected to the new URLs from the old URLs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

  After you set up a WordPress.org install and install and activate the JetPack plugin you supply the two URLs to Staff here and they can transfer your email subscribers.
