Beep Beep Boop prevents me from creating posts or editing!

  • Unknown's avatar

When I try to create a new post from drop down menu on upper bar, I get “beep beep boop” and the new post page never loads. It just shows the beep beep boop thing *forever*. I can still create new posts by going to the dashboard and choosing new post from there. I have also run into this problem when I try to edit a post by using the edit link instead of going through the dashboard list of posts. I understand the “beep beep boop” is part of a “new posting experience” but all it does for me is *prevent* me from posting, or make me go though dashboard, posts page etc. before I can create a post or edit one. I’m using Firefox browser and it is up-to-date. Please fix this! Your new improved incredibly buggy posting experience is extremely aggravating because it *does not work*!

    Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble with the new post editor! Do you have any extensions or add-ons installed in Firefox? Sometimes those can interfere.

Please try temporarily disabling any add-ons and see if the new post editor works for you then. If it does, you can try turning your add-ons back on one at a time to see which one is the culprit. Here are instructions for finding and disabling add-ons in Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

I disabled all plugins, extensions and themes on Firefox. It did not fix the problem.

I also checked to see if I had the problem in IE (which I normally never use). I got a *different* error in IE: a thing came up at the bottom of the screen which said “Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors.”

I don’t know how Firefox handles problems with security certificates (it might or might not be related to my recent Beep Beep new post problem in Firefox), but that should probably be fixed on your end before further troubleshooting on my end of things.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? I’m not getting that error when I visit the editor in IE, but I’d like to make sure I’m testing in the same version you have.

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s IE 9, Version: 9.0.8112.16421 I think whether or not a browser notifies a user about a problem with a security certificate is determined by some setting in options.

I don’t know whether or not that’s the way my Firefox is set up. I haven’t touched options in years. I only mentioned the error mssg in IE in the hope that it would shed some light on the problem, but really, I need it to work in Firefox because that’s what I use all the time. Firefox is 32.0.3 and it’s been updated a few times since the problem began some weeks ago.

I’m seeing the same thing today, after using the new editor without trouble on multiple computers (including this one) for over a week.

I’m on OS X 10.9.5, using both Chrome and Safari. I’ve quit and relaunched both, and the only extension I’m running in Safari is LastPass.

Also running OS X 10.9.5, Firefox. New post screen won’t come up – just getting the BeepBeep graphic.

Related question – I always switch back to the Classic editor (the new one doesn’t fit my workflow). Is there a way to default to Classic when I sign in?
    Thanks.

Tried Safari (v.7.0.6) – get same stall.

Try emptying cache and cookies on your browser. Worked for me!

  • Unknown's avatar

Worked for me as well on both Chrome & Safari. Thanks!

@treediva – Thanks for those details. Since you’re most concerned about getting Firefox working, can you please try clearing your cache and cookies there? Please let me know if you continue to have trouble in Firefox after that.

Clearing the cache & cookies in Firefox didn’t solve the problem. :-(

Argh, I’m sorry that didn’t fix it. At this stage, the best way for me to understand why it’s still not loading is to see if there are any errors in your browser’s Javascript console.

We have a guide for getting to the Javascript console in Firefox. Once you’re there, please make a screenshot of the entire console area or your full screen.

You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.

Ummm…I followed the instructions, but once I clicked “Clear” the field was empty. Nothing showed up when I clicked the JS button after clear. The field was empty. (I’m not sure why the instructions said to click Clear *before* the JS button.)

IF the errors in the console are color coded, there was only one line (before I clicked either clear or JS) which has the yellow like the JS button does: “Use of getPreventDefault() is deprecated. Use defaultPrevented instead. notes-widget.min.js:2”

Do you still need a screenshot? There were a huge number of blue-coded errors before I clicked Clear. (Blue, presumably CSS, since that button was blue).

C’mon, now this? Editing posts worked fine 10 minutes ago till now. Now it just gets stuck on the “beep beep boop” screen. And yes, i’ve tried diabling everything in Firefox and it still refused to load. Cleared the cache, started Firefox in Safe Mode (by holding Shift during startup of Firefox). Nothing.

Having this same exact problem. It hangs on “Beep Beep Boop” forever.

Same here…..cannot add a new post at all. I’m using Firefox 32.0.3.
All I get is “Beep Beep Boop”

    Hello,

I have the same problem on Firefox 32.0.3 in Permanent Private Mode on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, I do not really use the New Editor but I have to let it load to use the Classic Editor, but today it stays stuck on the Beep Beep Boop screen which usually does not happen and this did not happen yesterday; and so this is clearly a bug since nothing has changed with my browser recently (and everything auto-clears when I exit my browser because I use Permanent Private Mode), and various people are having this problem on different operating systems and on different browsers. ;)

    Thank you,
    -John Jr
