Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

    Bug report (that I apologise if someone else has already added; I did try to read through all the post, but I might have missed one): I edited a sticky post (by using the “edit” link in the post), but even though I only changed the wording of the post and no settings, when I updated the post became unstuck (unstickied?) and turned into a normal post. Yes, I could re-stick it by editing it through the dashboard instead – but I shouldn’t have to do that. The editor shouldn’t change anything about my posts that I haven’t actively chosen to change.

    For the record, I use FF 31 on Win 7.

    WP … ask yourselves why we are even talking about this. This doesn’t happen on Apple or even Microsoft sites.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yet “another” issue with this childlike, disturbing and far less easily workable editor — is that the categories you had originally chosen (I’m speaking purely on an EDIT basis, not a first post basis), used to be finally ordered at the top of the category list (those that were checked,/already in use for that post), so if one wanted to merely uncheck one, or easily find what was checked, should they wish to possibly use them in tags instead, they were all neatly found at the top of the category list. Not the case in this newly mushed together, bad on the eyes, pop-up causing, edits not showing or saving, coding being changed, discombobulated mess they’ve created.

    @ dribblingpensioner, I agree 100%. raincoaster keeps reposting the original post (not made by raincoaster) that tells us of the work-around – and even had the nerve to tell me that I should download another editor – saying “problem solved.” No, the problem is not solved – a huge problem exists, with tons of bugs and what was once found in one place, on one page, is now found in several places and it’s a discombobulated mess. Users should NOT have to work-around a problem that they did not cause – period end. Kudos dribblingpensioner.

  • Unknown's avatar

    It’s completely ruined my way of working. I create a skeleton post and then add tags, categories and paragraphs as required.

    How do I get my old editor back?

    It’s total crap!

  • Unknown's avatar

    longshotblues: You have taken any joy of writing & posting blogs here.

    I so agree… and I wonder why WP Happiness Engineers don’t see this?

    Is WP pruning bloggers as if we are weeds to be pulled or uprooted?

    Will WP soon re-offer all the old sensible, workable functions for a fee?

    Just what is up with WP that it keeps ignoring the voices of its users?

    My loyalty as a user and my patience as a blogger are neck-and-neck.

  • Unknown's avatar

    How about this work-around…

    Add a link to the old editor in each post :

    https://yourblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=postNumber&action=edit

    (tongue firmly in cheek)

    EDIT PROBLEMS ONLY

    1. Edit is not longer found on the same page as add – so a 2nd unnecessary page was created, taking you off the original page, which was not only unnecessary to do – but having it in the same place actually assisted in the functions of what it is we were doing in “edit” mode.

    2. Pop-ups? Really? It’s 2014 – pop-ups? We need new windows opening as much as we need to all rethink myspace as an A-1 blogging site *rolls eyes*

    3. This “newly redone” mess, has hijacked our code/html, adding in tags, closing tages and removing the very clean spacing that existed upon initially created our posts – thus making it an awful and frustrating task when trying to find what it is you’re looking to edit – now among one long string of code.

    4. Edits done via the newly designed mess, DO NOT update/stay/remain/work. I’ve tried several times throughout the day – and the ONLY time I’ve been able to get my updates to actually update is when I went around the long way to the old editor (you remember that one – the one that was fantastic, made sense, was easier for your users).

    5. Categories being used are no longer all listed at the top of the categories list (i.e. you choose 8 categories – but now you’d like to go back and edit them, possibly delete or add to them, or maybe you’ve decided to change them from categories to tags, so you need a clear easy view of which categories you had used/chosen). They are NOT, as they were before, listed at the top of the category list any longer – you have to sit there and scroll through your entire list of categories to find the ones you’ve used for that post.

    6. The time is NOT accurately updating. I updated a time on one of my posts via the new and non-improved mess – which oddly “stuck” since none of my text changes did, and when I went into edit mode via the long way around to the OLD and WONDERFUL editor — it showed the time as changed to a time 4 hours into the future??? Hello?

    7. It’s too small – it’s cramped together – it’s terrible on the eyes.

    8. It’s too difficult to get back to your main add screen – which was the beauty of the old editor – it was the SAME screen – everything you needed in one place.

    Shall I go on? I will if you like.

    P.S. I do not wish to install or download anything – I use the online version of WP only – and only began using it as a trial for the past 3 months – a test drive to see if it was worth purchasing the product, which I was strongly considering as of late – and since yesterday, will not waste my money on, if this is what I have to contend with.

  • Unknown's avatar

    PS – since this rollout of a mess – the Reader page is no longer updating in real time – or even half real time – it’s far behind on updating. FYI

    Hi there,

    I am answering everyone up to @dandelionsalad.

    @johnjronline:

    Currently the spell check is not in the new Editor. It has been taken out. I have noted your request and will relay that back to our developers.

    @oldcat007:

    Also messed up: the more tag in the original editor is now invisible in draft window. It does work when you post, thank goodness.

    I can add the More Tag:

    Screen Shot

    If you still have issues with this, please open up a new thread.

    Photo size starts as medium and will not remember your preference, so you need to resize them all manually.

    We are aware of this and has been reported to our team. They are currently looking into this. You can follow along here:

    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/29073

    Does not save your work if you open up settings tab on the right.

    Not sure what this means. If you open up Settings you can’t save your post? I wasn’t able to reproduce this, can you please explain?

    @johnjronline:

    Also there is a problem in the Dashboard Editor now where you can not post video links/links in the Visual Editor, they do not show up, and so you have to use the Text Editor to get links to show.

    I was able to reproduce this. I will report this to our team.

    @waltzingmorethanmatilda

    PollDaddy polls have just disappeared as an option: there’s no “add poll” button any more.

    The new editor has taken out the Add Poll and Add Contact Form buttons. There’s a possibility that it will be added in the future. I have noted your request to add this.

    When I ask to Preview a post, all it does is Save it (get a little message saying “Congratulations! You just saved your post!”), so I can’t tell what it looks like until it is published.

    After you save, you should get a pop up window of what you see.

    Once I add a photo, I can’t add any text unless I switch to the text page, but I can’t edit it until I switch back to visual. What with now having to toggle between draft and publish options, there’s an awful lot of of switching and toggling going on.

    I was able to do this in the Visual Editor:

    Screen Shot

    If you are still having issues with this, please open up a new thread.

    @gigihawaii

    I can’t save my new post, and I can’t get it published.

    I was able to. Can you try again? If not, please open up a new thread about this.

    @davidderrick

    I see an italic in the blockquote, it will now show as non-italic to a reader. And if I make it non-italic, it will show as italic to a reader.

    I was able to reproduce this, I have reported this to our team.

    And I cannot see a preview unless I go back to the draft in the drafts list. Just clicking preview while editing does not give me a preview! It stays with the editing window.

    It should opens up in a Pop up window as written above. If this doesn’t happen, check your popup blocker. And if that doesn’t help, please open up a new thread.

    I understand that there are lots of feedback on the size of the editor. I will add this to the list of feedback.

    I will continue to go through this thread. Please do not add any more threads about what I have addressed so far.

    Thank you for your patience!

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ anonymouswidower – me too, I understand – I’m a huge editor and this is a dysfunctional mess that is destroying my ability to edit – which in turn, is destroying my ability to post — thus why bother using the site?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ gracejiyoung / Staff – please read my list a few comments up – I believe it’s a list of 8 or so issues, many of which you did not address. You mentioned not being able to reproduce the “unable to save changes” issue – I don’t know how else to explain this to you. I make edits/changes, click update – view my post and my changes are not there, it happens over and over again unless I use the OLD editor.

    If you can please address each issue i addressed in my comment a few posts up – it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for getting back to us regarding our concerns.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello Gracejiyoung,

    Thank you for responding to my first few reports, and for reporting them to the developers for me. :)

    @gracejiyoung, Thanks. But why this shocking lack of testing?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve been a regular on WordPress.com since 2006. This thread makes me seriously question (otherwise you would not take this comment seriously).

    Has WordPress.com changed ownership?

    This does not appear to be the same team under the guidance of Matt and Toni.

    A compose box is the heart, mind and soul of blogging software. Changing it so abruptly and in such an overwhelming way, is the last thing company like Automattic should be considering.

    A new compose box with the new stats page, has been out there for a while. Do you see majority of people using it? If not, then you should know, that forcing the same (it is not even same) to everyone, is not going to go down well. Why not make slow and small cosmic changes instead of big and abrupt ones?

    A good visionary leadership would always anticipate reaction with changes. This thread has hundreds of angry customers and no positive feedback. What else you need to go back to the drawing board? Please take the consensus and retract the changes. We are not against change but it should be done with good judgment.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @davederrick

    Thanks. But why this shocking lack of testing?

    I know that your question is directed to gracejiyoung but may I please say something?

    1. It’s clear to me that the drive for the changes we experience and test right here on the WordPress.COM blogging platform comes from WordPress.ORG users. They use the free free WordPress.ORG software to make their living from.

    2.It’s clear to me that WordPress.COM is the testing platform. All theses changes are experienced by Staff first and then by WordPress.COM users. Code changes are made daily here as WordPress.COM operates as the testing platform for are WordPress upgrades. The new WordPress versions are up and running here about a month before they become available to WordPress.ORG users.

    Again, the work around leaves text garbled, coded mess. Impossible to edit like this. This wasn’t addressed. The more you update the more hope we lose that WP is actually just going to keep this mess.

    Again you took something not broken and destroyed it. WP has made a gigantic mistake regardless of how much wasted time you spent. It’s a useless waste that had destroyed our ability to Post New posts and Edit them or any others already posed.

    I have just under 900 posts, 70% Music blogs. In text I cannot edit missing videos with everything a garbled coded mess.

    I realize a lot of us are being repetitious in our statements but you must understand how upsetting all this is. It is why we blog in the first place. Enjoyment.

    I also write on very serious detailed subject matters on Horse Racing that are viewed by the racing industry. This editor without functioning HTML text will make things virtually impossible.

    In reality WP will have destroyed our blogs. No common sense here at all.

    Why do this?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @timethief Thanks, but testing in this case does not have to be done on live animals.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Look here folks for future WordPress versions now in BETA:
    http://wordpress.org/news/2014/07/wordpress-4-0-beta-1/
    And here
    http://wordpress.org/news/2014/07/wordpress-4-0-beta-2/
    Of course there is testing and we WordPress.COM users are part of that.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Actually timethief that’s untrue – 2 things untrue. (just clarifying, not poor tone intended).

    1. I am a wordpress.com user (free user), new at that, only 3 months old, and have been testing it out to see if I want to use it for another platform that would not be free – and I do NOT use the free online version to make a living.

    2. This change did not come out on wordpress.com first – this was Just implemented in the middle of the night last night to us … sometime between 2am when I got off wp, and 7am this morning when I returned to wordpress.
