Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?
-
…be more specific…
1. Use the full available screen estate.
This is my main complaint. The current editor uses a tiny fraction of my huge screens. Which I bought for the very purpose of having large windows for editing text, viewing as much of the text as possible.
2. Do not mess up my HTML
There is a reason why I use HTML. It is the same reason why most Wikipedia editors use markup rather than “WYSIWYG”. Also, there is a reason why I want to make my HTML editable, with empty line between paras etc. The new editor removes newlines and unnecessary spaces. I agree, these spaces are not necessary for the HTML and even harmful for your web traffic. However, I do need them.
3. Make it work
It does not work with my current setup (which is Opera on Ubuntu). And since I did not notice any problem with the gazillion of other websites which I am using, from google to facebook, I assume you messed it up. Specifically, when I add text to an existing post, it does not appear — although the HTML of the post has been modified.

Let’s do a deal…..
If WP give us the Setting Option to choose between new and old, we promise to help with in-depth beta-testing of the new editor.

@greacejiyoung
Where are all these positive comments – it doesn’t work!
Furthermore:
How can changing Beep Beep Boop to ‘Loading all the things’ constitute an improvement. It remains infantile and unprofessional. Please try and treat serious bloggers with some respect! -
If you are generally unhappy with this change, we want to hear that. However, it’s really useful for us if you can be a bit more specific. Let us know exactly what is making you unhappy, and we’d be more than happy to take that feedback back to the team.
The problem ist mentioned several times.
And the solution has been given at least a hundred times from a hundred different users in this thread.Get back the old interface or at least give us an option to choose in settings
A summary of this thread is here: https://dudeweblog.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/beep-beep-boop-update-verunstaltet-wordpress-zum-kindergarten/ (made for german wp-users that do not speak english)

I agree with knashermac2009. Why not have an option to use the non beep beep boop editor and the previous editor — which has a larger screen. Give people with tablets and other smaller devices the option to use the beep beep boop editor, while allowing people with PC’s and MAC’s to use the previous editor. Would make it a win win for WordPress and the individuals like myself who would like to use the non beep beep boop editor. What do you think STAFF?

Hi all :)
You smile.
I see that there are lots of thoughts about linking to the new editor.
There are even FAR more thought about linking in some way to the old editor.
My proposal (together with some other users): Make the new “beep beep boop” (now: “loading things”) editor the default one. So you’ve enough beta testers around and can happily make conversation with them. Let us know when it’s ready to use.
BUT! PLEASE! Give us an option in the blog’s settings:
o Use the shiny new “loading things” editor
o Use the almost fully functional “old” editoras your default editor for
o new blog postings and pages
o editing already published postings and draftsThanks in advance. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT FOR SEMI-PROF OR PROF BLOGGERS!!! As soon as this short wishlist is reality I’ll help you with another new editor maybe.
I understand that the people in this thread are generally unhappy with these new changes. That is noted and we are taking it into consideration.
You said that several times before like a robot. No hard feelings anyway…
You’ll notice that I’m answering more bug-related, enhancement ideas with the new editor. While there is general unhappiness here, we’ve also heard a lot of positive comments about it as well.
I heard exactly ONE positive comment and I read the whole thread. It was one or two pages earlier in this forum (about that you can choose now in what blog you want to post—if you have more than one blog; the only new thing).
We are taking everything into consideration.
You said that already, WordPress.com staff member gracejiyoung. Smiling robot.
Bug-related and enhancement related posts are the ones we can act on.
I’ve made a little bug report some postings above for the OLD editor. I hope you are taking even this into consideration.
We can make the necessary changes to improve this editor.
Please improve the old editor as well and give unlimited access to it. When this is done I’ll consider helping you with a new one.
We know it’s not perfect,
It’s complete buggy and there is missing a ton of things. Where to begin?!
but we are working on making it better.
Sorry but that sounds as if you’ve started your blog hosting service some hours ago. <confused> Wasn’t this service recommended by Walt Mossberg some years ago?
If you are generally unhappy with this change, we want to hear that.
You hear that since 360+ postings. One of the longest threads in the WP.com support forum afair. Not enough yet?
However, it’s really useful for us if you can be a bit more specific. Let us know exactly what is making you unhappy, and we’d be more than happy to take that feedback back to the team.
What makes me unhappy is that I have to use a bookmark/java script now for being able to edit recent or older postings quick via the common “Edit” link. Please change that as soon as possible. It’s crucial!
And please tell me who’s your boss and how is his/her email address.

Ms. Young, I, too, would like to see ‘positive comments’. I have followed this thread from the beginning and have yet to see one.
This sounds more and more defensive on WP’s part. I realize that you’re just someone on the front line, taking all the flak, but the fact that we are ALL screaming, yelling and saying nothing but negatives should tell you that there is nothing good about beep beep boop.
NOTHING.We don’t care to be given the “There, there, just suck it up, we know what’s best and you don’t.” Most of us DO. There are bloggers who could probably teach your developers more than they could ever learn about coding, development and oh, might I say, Customer Relations??
Some of us have paid a lot of money for their sites only to see them trashed by some nincompoop. (or should that be ‘nincomBoop”?
I’m betting some manager is cowering behind his desk while you’re taking the flak instead of LISTENING to us. I bet the developers are completely and utterly mystified at our reaction. I KNOW there are developmental egos that have been deflated and right now, everyone is pointing fingers at us, rather than themselves. But not a one of them seems inclined to do any more than, as one person put it so aptly, cherry pick the problems they want to fix and not admit that the whole thing STINKS and should be trashed. Completely. For ever.
If WP truly has spent a year creating this abortion, then it appears that the monkeys are running the circus, rather than adults.Y’all sound a lot like Congress.

I am one of the users who are unhappy with this experiment as well and would very much appreciate a simple switch that gives me a CHOICE whether I want to use this or stick with the old editor, if this experiment has to continue for whatever reason.
I don’t know if it has been mentioned previously (and I’m not going to wade through 13 pages of comments), but there’s no access to my existing Media Library from the alternative editor. I’m blogging with and about photos and that’s just extremely unhandy.
But most of all, I want to be in the environment of MY BLOG and not on some page that looks completely detached from everything else. It’s just a horrible user experience. Imagine any online banking site would do that. Complete destruction of trust and confidence.

I’ve read almost all this thread and… I see more negative compliments than positive ones. WordPress people, if you want to help us bloggers, don’t mess around with us with the things you may think we want to read here.
“I will go the route via “dashboard>posts>add new” to access the old editor. I really hope they won´t remove the old editor completely. It´s sad what I see. “
That’s what I’m doing actually to create my new posts in my blog: http://programbytes48k.wordpress.com/
As I’ve read in the last comments, think about adding an option at settings menu to choose between old (and ever best) editor and the new one (the rejected/refused by so many people here). Is that so difficult for you to understand and apply, WP?
I’m actually disappointed and my efforts to keep my blog active is just like starting to restrain. I’m not in the mood to be positive actually. IMHO, there was no really need for this futile change, wasn’t it?

“While there is general unhappiness here, we’ve also heard a lot of positive comments about it as well. We are taking everything into consideration. … We can make the necessary changes to improve this editor. We know it’s not perfect, but we are working on making it better.”
ObamaCare was ‘passed’ against the wishes of the public to create better health care and ‘improvements’ are being made all of the time. Nonetheless the people want their old coverage back. Obama insists on making further ‘changes’. The same is true with immigration, education, energy…
Having read all previous comments, the easy answer here is obviously an option for the old editor.
-
The idea of allowing users to opt for the old editor format in the settings is an excellent idea and should be adopted by the management.
-
“And please tell me who’s your boss and how is his/her email address.”
Dear all,
the staff people who contact us are likely not the ones who have decisive power regarding the new interface. Usually asking for the bosses e-mail / phone number is an indirect threat (“may I speak to your boss!”); I think that we should keep being courteous and friendly here instead.

Hi there!
I’m not sure that anyone has mentioned that it is no longer possible to edit Photo Galleries. Instaed of the clickable gallery image, the gallery shortcode is displayed (in visuall mode).
Yes you are correct! I was able to reproduce this as well. I have reported this back to our team.
Sorry about the inconvenience. I’ll try to keep this thread updated as soon as we hear of fixes!
-
@gracejiyoung: don’t forget my (simple) question ;)

@greenbaggins-
Hi there!
First thing: when I try to post something straight from the “text” version of the new post editor, it will publish the post, but all the stuff done in HTML mode evaporates. I have to switch it to “Visual” before I click “publish” in order to get the post published. This is a serious problem. I had an entire post disappear into cyberspace because of it.
Did you notice this change only in the new editor? Does this not happen in the old editor? I’m asking only because not all formatting created in a word processor like Microsoft Word will be reproduced when pasting into WordPress.com’s editor. You can find more information about this here:
We changed this back in March of 2014. You can read more about this here:
With that update, text pasted from Microsoft Word was automatically stripped of any code, so that you don’t encounter any formatting issues on your blog.
Second thing: my categories don’t show up anymore in the heirarchical family-types that I’m used to. Instead, since they’re also more spread out, I have to scroll down a LOT of space in order to get the ones I want, and they’re in a totally different order, because they’re not listed in their heirarchical relationships.
This was reported back to our developers.
Thirdly, I have to click a LOT more buttons to get anything done to a new post. I prefer to see my options easily accessible. I like a cluttered screen when it comes to editing, because that’s less navigation I have to do while editing.
When you say this, are you talking about the dropdowns? The extra clicks to get to the module while in the old editor it was just there?
Thanks for your feedback!
-
You really are not listening! I’m not interested in fixes – nor is anyone else here. An inconvenience? Are you serious?
-
@mabelamber, @leeinblack, @desertbeacon, @planetdreamsdiaries, @robinanne, –
Hi there,
the editing field is pretty cramped, leaving a sea of unused space to the left and the right,
I’ve actually heard quite a few reports of this and the developers are aware of this.
There may be some rationale for the changes, but the new interface appears to be something designed for mobile devices and not those who need or want some serious editing
From what I’m hearing in this thread, there is a lot of talk about how small the editor is, which has led to a discussion of whether this editor was directly designed for mobile.
Please note that the size of the editor has nothing to do with mobile, and this editor was in fact designed desktop-first, and was then ported to be responsive.
-
@gracejiyoung Sounds like you failed miserably in your quest to make this junk “responsive.”
-
@quarkone-
Hi J.C.!
Among the many things difficult about the new editor is the absence of the Format selections. I like to change my prior posts to “Gallery” posts after a new post goes up. It used to be easy to do — just click edit, select and update. Now I’m going to the dashboard, revealing all posts, then selecting edit and etc.
The Post Format options are viewable in the Advanced Options dropdown as seen here:
If this is not what you mean, please let me know!
Also, the tags and categories are cumbersome in the new editor.
Can you please explain when you mean by cumbersome? I do see that it could take a few more clicks to get what you want. For example, you have to open up a dropdown to view the existing tags. Would this be the reason?
Let me know!
