Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

    gracejiyoung, I’m sure you’re a nice person, and it must be dreadful that you pulled the job of being out in front on this. This can’t be any fun for you. But please, saying “Thanks for your feedback!” doesn’t make anyone feel better about what’s happened here. Further, fixing a bug here and there doesn’t solve the fundamental problem.

    It should be obvious by now that no one wants this new editor! Please tell the developers that they should offer it as an option for those do like it — if such people exist. The rest of us, almost unanimously, want the old editor back. (And while they’re at it, they should restore the scroll bar that they removed.)

    This editor is a junk joke and I am leaving the second the old editor access is removed.

    Hi there,

    There were reports that posts published were not saving changes when the new editor was switched from Visual to Text. This has been fixed!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Not only do we want the old editor back. We want it now. . . Otherwise why bother. I, for one have already moved my domain name to another registrar and am now preparing to take my blog elsewhere. Old editor back within the week please!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Really I’m not sure if they really want to help us or pushing us away to other blog services. I’m just considering that choice

    So far I have not seen a single word of apology for the inconvenience that’s representing the new editor in its visuals and reduced functions, I see not even they want to step back and leave it like that before, unless the old version have another access route from dashboard.

    Me, and many people here, want to see apologies with a throwback to how things were before. Almost nobody here wants the new version of the editor. You have, WordPress team, two choices:

    1) Rolling back the way to the old editor.

    2) Add a new function at dashboard > settings > General for all users to select between new or old editor box.

    It’s very simple.

    I’ll repeat Galois’ question:

    @gracejiyoung, a simple question: since the new edit has many bugs, you are going to keep the old editor? (Dasboard-> Posts-> Add new)
    a) yes
    b) no
    c) do not know / no answer

    Can you answer? We need to know that this fiasco will not become complete.

    Now you cannot post gigya method of YT. I tested it.

    I was able to do it in the new editor as seen here:

    Screen Shot

    Can you show me the steps that you took in your test?

    I just went in to “new” and saw a “publish” and “preview” button. Thank you! At least that mystery is solved.

    @nixedsims-

    Hi there!

    I edited a sticky post (by using the “edit” link in the post), but even though I only changed the wording of the post and no settings, when I updated the post became unstuck (unstickied?) and turned into a normal post.

    Sorry about this. We were aware of this and it has been fixed! You will see it when you go to the Advanced Options dropdown as seen here:

    Screen Shot

    Let me know if you have any issues with this!

    @greacejiyoung
    I hope someone is thoroughly testing theses fixes? It sounds rather like panic stations to me. Why weren’t these things tested before implementation?
    WP need to accept that they goofed, it doesn’t work, it is riddled with errors and your customers/users don’t want it. The simple thing to do is to restore the old systems and then if you insist on change at least make sure it is fit for purpose before rolling it out.
    It really is that simple! All of these so-called fixes are a smokescreen!

    I’m totally right with it.

    @gracejiyoung

    There seems to be another problem with this new editor – it appears to make people working for WordPress unable to understand plain English and wilfully ignorant to the pleas of dissatisfied WP users.

    For some reason when people ask “Can we have the old editor back?” a bout of dyslexia overcomes the WP forum staff and they read this as “Nothing to see here, move along”!

    Can you add this to your list of fixes please? Thanks.

    Please don’t post mean spirited comments. They aren’t helpful and they needlessly poison the environment here.

    I also hate this new beep beep boop. Please can we go back to what we had. Why change it, when it was working perfectly?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @gracejiyoung
    Yes, I’ve seen that that the sticky option is back (I even mentioned it back on page 11, but I’m guessing you haven’t got to that page yet). The sticky stays stuck now. Thank you for fixing it!

    Dear all, please refrain from personal remarks. Do you think that being sarcastic / unfriendly / rude will help bringing us the old editor back? Seriously?

    From my experience, when companies launch new features these features tend to stick. How do we know whether “everyone despises them”? Negative opinions are always louder. That is why our voice will not matter as much as a proper user survey.

    Our best hope is to try to get the new editor do all the things we want it to do. In my case it is:

    1) using all available screen estate
    2) being respectful of the spaces in the HTML code
    3) sticking, as far as possible, to W3C standards

    The notion that nigh unto a year of Staff time being devoted to this or any other development will be reverted isn’t reality based. We can use the workrounds found here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/beep-beep-boop-screen-is-a-joke-is-this-a-glitch/page/4?replies=400#post-1993873

    We can report exactly what doesn’t work to Support Staff, who will convey that to the developers, who will then fix it. But expecting that all that work will be eliminated because less than 100 people out of the millions who blog here at WordPress.com can cause Staff to revert this isn’t something I expect to happen.

    Testing the fixes to the glitches? No. They’re not. I am just this second off from a chat with “Adam” at WP. He led me through some links to get my old editor back. It worked fine (Hover over name of site – hover over “new” click on “post”. ) – until he left the chatroom that is. . . . . . . . . Nothing fixed. Same old, same old. (or should I say “new”.

    The only way this works is in TEXT, which is not working. Everything is being posted in VISUAL so video was completely missing. Had to do work around to old editor, only then does it work.

    Pictures that had an &nps which spaced them also now does not work in new editor. Again it automatically is posting everything in visual which doesn’t allow it to be edited in text. It just loses all format again and again. If you write your blog in text, you cannot EDIT in text.

    This is all absurd.

    Why are we all talking about fixing the “NEW” editor when there was nothing wrong with the *OLD ONE*.

    Why change to something which is broke, when the old was working just fine. This doesn’t make any logical sense.

    And just to add something, for the last month before this new editor was dropped on us. My Proofread went haywire, had a bunch of stuff off to the left side blocking the entire content. Then couldn’t get out of it, had to press save draft button.

    I cannot comprehend and it is inconceivable to me why WP is trying to fix something new, when the old worked perfectly fine. Other then the proofread going haywire. You took away a simple Edit (now we have to work around to get the old editor) and gave us a nightmare.

    I’m fed up. Just change it back, that will FIX the problem.

    To Timethief’s point … Saying Thanks at the end of a post here is all that’s needed and makes it courteous. I forgot in my last one.
