Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

The new post editor – the screen we get after the beep beep boop screen is utterly terrible. Thankful for those who have posted the workaround.

Does not save your work if you open up settings tab on the right.
Not sure what this means. If you open up Settings you can’t save your post? I wasn’t able to reproduce this, can you please explain?
I was trying to use it for a post. I added some pictures and found the resize problem. Saved the post. Then I added more text and images, saw the blue “Settings” icon on the title bar and clicked on it to see if I could change it so it would remember the picture size. But these Settings were my profile settings, not related to the editor.
Then I couldn’t find a way back (!) as it covered the Boop Editor. I went back on the browser using the back button, but when I got back to the Boop Editor page it had nothing in it. Eventually, when I found the draft and edited it using the Regular Editor, all the changes after that save point were missing.
I spent enough time doing the edits and settings look that some autosave should have kicked in, but apparently it didn’t.Thanks for the explanation! So for the Settings icon in the new editor, I did find two:
So I think you clicked on the Profile settings and when it wasn’t related the post settings, you clicked back? And then, when it loaded your draft wasn’t there. When you found your draft posts in your Dashboard > Posts > All Posts, the changes weren’t saved from my understanding?
In order for the changes to save, click on Preview at the bottom and that will save your Draft. I’ll look into the autosave and see what our developers have to say about that.

Not sure it has been mentioned but this beep poop April’s Fools joke of an editor removed my post from being “Sticky” when I actually did use it to make a quick update.
I’m not sure if you saw my post above, but just wanted to mention that this has been fixed.

This is what I see when I go into the editor:
link
the “add media” button is missing, as is the second row of format optionsThanks for the screenshot! I was able to see that the Add Media button is missing on your sites when you use the new editor. I’m sorry about this. I have reported your issue to our developers.

Hi there,
The new editor seems to be designed for those who prefer Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram type posts. Those who build around images, music, and video, as well as writing more than one or two sentences, will likely find this new editor creates more work to compose a complex blog post. I know I did, and that’s why I didn’t use it for my post today.
Can you elaborate on this? I know that Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram give way to shorter posts – are you finding it harder to create lengthier posts on the new editor? How so? Is it the size of the editor? Is it specifically the dropdowns and the extra clicks?

Hi there,
No “copy post” feature … I use this A LOT! Most of my posts are book reviews, I like that I can copy an old post and just update the information. When 95% of your posts are the same format, it’s ridiculous to be expected to re-format every single post.
In the design of the new editor, our developers have informed us that the Copy a Post feature will be left out.
The categories are listed alphabetically now? Um, no! I nested my categories for a friggin reason … to find them easily. Now they’re unnested and I have no idea if I even got all the categories I wanted.
We’ve received multiple reports of this as well and has been reported. I’ll update you once I hear back on this.
I have to manually type in the slug I want for my post? Seriously? Another time-waster in my opinion.
You don’t have to manually add it. This is only if you want to create your own. For example, when I created this test post I didn’t add a slug:
and it posted as this:
The reason there is a -2 is that I have another post titled “test” on that blog as well.

Hi there,
In addition to what everyone else says, and I agree wholeheartedly, I can no longer automatically link my new posts to Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn even though the boxes are checked to do that. How can there be so many glitches to this new “editor”? Seriously, I wanted to come home from work and do a quick post. Now it’s 2 hours later. This is not how I like to spend my time. Blogging is my RELAXATION not my frustration. Facebook brings me many of my readers.
This actually sounds more like a Publicize issue than an editor issue. I checked your Publicize history and could not find any errors. Is this only happening when you are publishing posts from the new editor?
Can you please open up a new thread about this? It’d be easier to troubleshoot this in a separate thread.
If anyone is experiencing Publicize issues only in the new editor, but not the old, please let me know!

What I really appreciated about the old version was the auto-save and the draft saved advisory. Does the new version have that? I’ve not found it.
I’m aware of this and I have reported this back to our developers.
And about the Word Count? Is that in the new version, and I’ve not located it yet?
This also is not in the new editor, but there have been multiple reports to bring it back.
In the meantime, many popular browsers include spelling and grammar checkers built in to them.
For example, Safari includes a spelling and grammar checker in the Edit menu, under “Spelling and Grammar.” You can check an entire post at once or have it check while you type.

Hi there!
My specific complaint is I can’t access my media gallery from the new edit page.
You should be able to access your Media > Library page by clicking on Add Media as seen here:
Are you talking about editing your Gallery within the new editor? At the moment, if you enter a gallery into your post from the new editor it is just a gallery shortcode (so you can’t edit it). We are aware of these bugs, and it has been reported. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will keep this thread updated about this.

I see that there are lots of thoughts about linking to the new editor.
Is WP even listening to us? There are lots of thoughts shared here about linking back to the older, more functional editor — not linking to the new.
I understand that the people in this thread are generally unhappy with these new changes. That is noted and we are taking it into consideration.
Some of us more than “generally unhappy” as in seriously distressed and downright disgusted, as in “specifically unhappy.” Please hear this.
While there is general unhappiness here, we've also heard a lot of positive comments about it as well. We are taking everything into consideration.
As others have requested, please post for us the “positive comments” which none of us posting here have seen, heard, or even imagined possible.
Bug-related and enhancement related posts are the ones we can act on. We can make the necessary changes to improve this editor.
We have reported bug after beep beep boop bug and none of them have been squashed. We don't want “this editor” improved. We want it removed.
If you are generally unhappy with this change, we want to hear that.
We want you to hear that too — and we want you to act on it asap.
However, it’s really useful for us if you can be a bit more specific. Let us know exactly what is making you unhappy…
We have been specific — and have specifically filled 12 pages of posts with our shared and individual buggy glitches.
As I did yesterday, I'll be taking a look and addressing issues from the posts I left off on yesterday.
Pardon me, but why would WP or any Happiness Engineer be playing catch up with this thread?
Bugs are “reported to back to the developers.” Well, how about developers report back to users?
Specifics:
–internal scrollbar needs to be replaced, i.e., need to eliminate scrolling up and down inside posts
–need to insert links directly into the post, i.e., not have to switch from visal to text and back again
–new post needs to go to the blog itself, i.e., to the blog's post page, not an intermediary beepboop
–spellcheck needs to be returned and made accessible as an editing tool for every post we make
–return individual poster's ability to set default size of their choosing for images posted into blogs
–reinstate drop down menus for Tags and Categories so bloggers don't have to scroll and scroll
Suggestions:
–Honor the purpose of these user forums — read, listen, and respond to our concerns within one day.
–Hear what we are saying and how WP's uninvited, unnecessary changes affect us daily and hourly.
–Have WP conduct an impartial, immediate survey of paying blog posters to poll specific preferences.
–Refund fees paid by bloggers for particular tools and services that are no longer offered / available.
–Respect the integrity and intelligence of those who have — up till now — chosen WP for posting work.
–Realize that trust and good will go a long way in the market of today — yes, even in the 21st century.
–Provide users with clear options and ongoing opportunities to pick and choose among editing options.

Hi there,
On the new post screen, clicking “Set Featured Image” in the sidebar takes me to my own computer files, not my online WordPress media library. If the image is already in my library, as is usually the case, I don’t want to upload it again. I want to choose it from my library. This needs to be fixed.
Thanks for reporting this. We are aware that the Featured Image section in the new editor only allows you to upload an image from your computer, and not one already in the Media > Gallery page. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear an update.

I agree with @robinanne. The shorter editing box, the extra dropdowns, the extra clicks, the reorganization of categories alphabetically, the lack of a copy post function … and that’s all from just my first few attempts at it. I’m not one to complain very often about changes made to social media sites, but the only real problem with the old editing page was the lack of a fixed toolbar and WP just fixed that like two weeks ago and now that’s being replaced by a rather clunky new system.

In the design of the new editor, our developers have informed us that the Copy a Post feature will be left out.
which makes the new blue death editor mostly useless – I do a lot of how to articles and I copy the formatting then update the text (sometimes 1,000 words and 12 or more images) – assuming that the blue death editor will migrate and cripple the real editor that thankfully still sort of works in the dashboard – give the developers a rude salute from me
you broke the dashboard editor and it is still not fixed – so why break even more stuff?
also got a panic call from a friend about the new editor – the new editor had trashed his new post – could not find the dashboard – publish did not seem to be working and such
spent a full half hour on the phone walking him through to the dashboard – old editor and how to fix all the pictures that were the wrong size – great job folks

I third what feartheseeds said above.
@gracejiyoung, I hope you’re getting hazard pay for this, or at least a pot of really strong coffee. Dealing with this thread can’t be fun.

Hi there,
Quite simply, my internet cannot handle the new Boop Doop, and the more “improvements” that are added, the more impossible it will become.
This might also explain the errors you are unable to reproduce: you’re not testing it on a 3rd world Internet connection.
When Yahoo Mail upgraded, they offered a “classic mail” option for people on slow connection speeds – could you at least consider this? Thanks for this explanation. I have heard lots of reports that the new editor takes longer to load. Does it load at all for you? How long does it take to load? What is your internet speed?
Please let me know! A few more details about your situation can be helpful for my report.
-
Addendum – Also, I can’t figure out how to get the “Set Featured Image” to go to my Media Gallery. It keeps wanting me to upload something new.
And let me add to the chorus, @gracejiyoung, thanking you for working through all this with us.
