Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

    It looks like the new editor is not parsing some custom css classes and ids properly. The behavior is irregular, but goes away when we resave with the old editor.

    Ok let me give a try now too… Here are some details why I like the old editor and why I dislike the new one.

    The old editor:

    1. The editor is totally integrated into wordpress. The text field is a core surrounded by all other parts of wordpress such as the left sidebar, top sidebar, right side bar with opened panels and the bottom settings. This results in high usability and accessability in my opinion. It´s so beautiful to work with it. It´s the perfect workspace.

    2. It´s horizontal designed, for horizontal technology as wide screens.

    The new editor:

    1. It seems to be excluded from all other core elements as the whole left sidebar is away. The right sidebar is there but the panels are not opened (extra clicks). The bottom settings are not there anymore. The top bar is different too (where is the tiny traffic per hour diagram for example?). Resulting in no usability and absolutely no accessability.

    2. The text field is tiny as the text field in Facebook. I get claustrophobic feelings while looking at it, considering that I don´t want to write my mother a short text message but articles with media and links included, it makes it hard to work with it.

    3. Point 1 and 2 make the whole design appeal as many said. Made for vertical hold mobile phones. Remember the vertical video syndrom video? If not… take a look because this is how I feel about the new editor: Vertical Video Syndrom. Sorry but a vertical looking layout or text field looks strange like a vertical captured videos. Why I feel so? It´s the same reason… I don´t look at a vertical screen, I look at a horizontal, so called wide screen. It hurts to see a vertical paper places on a horizontal one in my opinion. I am not used to something like this.

    3. Loading times are a no go today. It takes around 5 or 10 seconds to load the new editor. Even if it would just take 2 seconds, it´s a big no no!

    I must add.. even if you add something to the left and right, the editor will be still horizontal too tiny. The text field might me big enough for small text messages that you would send friends but most of us here write long articles with media and links added. Even if staff said it´s not designed for mobile, but this is how the text field feels and looks like. It´s too small.

    To add something else. I see it like a lot of the other people here. It´s hard to accept this new editor due to several facts. a) the old one worked like a charm until people came up to change some things there. b) the design of the new editor is as mentioned claustrophobic, vertical-ish, and marked-off from important links and buttons to core features of wordpress and does not give me the impression that it is designed for desktop user but for instagram uploaders or facebook “authors”.

    I suggest too… Give us the option to set all “new post” links to the old editor. I gladly would choose the old editor because this is how I enjoyed to write with wordpress over the years. The recent workaround is just a drop of bitterness.

    Some cents from a customer who enjoyed the service many years, until now. I would be very glad if there would be an option for the old style so that my hobby is no longer disturbed by experiments or mobile-style design trends.

    By the way… Years ago I came here because wordpress got me the impression “Oh my god… this is a godess of a CMS”. I saw everything but wordpress impressed me so much. It´s hard to see that it´s changing now.

    Shorter written posts are one thing. But, do you @gracejiyoung know how hard you’ve made it for photographers to post with this update? First, you cannot see the actual size of the picture until you preview the page. Even then, you have to guess at the size and re-preview until you happen to stumble on the right size. If you post multiple pictures you get to work through the nightmare repeatedly. As some other poster said, we have a huge amount of real estate on any big machine that we use in studio or at home, why are we limited to some itty-bitty area that really has no usefulness. And… get rid of all those childish prompts. If you want to be professional, act professional.

    So many complaints, so many unhappy people, so why not drop beep beep boop and say it was another bad mistake.

    I hope you’ll forgive my previous (and apparently failed) attempt at humour. It wasn’t aimed at you personally, just my ironic/satirical take on this prickly situation. :-)

    Regarding the loading time, the beep boop takes about 30 seconds to load for me while the dashboard takes about 3 seconds. It’s like being back on dial-up. This is one other thing (of many) I don’t like about this new feature – that and it takes us away from our sites rather than staying put – or at least could open in a new tab (like previews do) so we have our sites still in place for reference if necessary.

    @quarkone

    Why is there a “location” option in the new editor??

    This option was also available in the old editor (it’s just a bit more prominent in the new one) as seen here:

    Screen Shot

    @gracejiyoung

    Hi Grace. What I meant by cumbersome on the categories and tags was, in addition to the drop down click (which I don’t like; I try to tag and categorize every post), the fact that the list is very spread out, like it’s some kind of html table, making it much longer vertically requiring me to search by scrolling down, and down, and etc., and without the benefit of a side scroll bar.

    About geotagging: I never noticed that feature. For me, making it prominent is a waste of space. Maybe you have a lot of restaurant reviewers I wasn’t aware of. But if not, I would recommend not making it a prominent feature.

    Thanks.

    load time sucks – I am sure that all the staff are required to have hot fiber to your PC so this would not be an issue – my DSL is not so good – the phone company are idiots and can’t keep the speed up – the new blue death editor in addition to being a UI disaster is just not usable from a speed point – and since it is the default editor when I click on the edit link from a Post – editing old Posts with a crippled slow editor is not even an option

    @kmabarrett-

    In any case, there is no longer an intuitive way to select the revision you want. i.e. a box over each of the options to check which one you want and a submit button. I’ve tried picking the one on the left and right and neither works.

    Are you talking about the old editor? If you are having issues with this, please open up a new thread. It’ll make the troubleshooting a lot faster.

    Where is the “Add Contact Form”? Or was that already addressed somewhere in here?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @knashermac2009

    1. It is no longer possible for admin or editors to edit someone else’s post. With 50 or more editors on my site, maintenance is no longer possible.
    2. No longer possible to edit photo galleries.

    Both of these have been reported to our team.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Is the problem of the “featured image” not providing access to the image gallery being addressed? I don’t want to upload a new featured image every time. There are a number of them that I often re-use.

    @ @knashermac2009

    You can edit other people’s posts in the old dashboard, I have just edited 11 posts.

    We are aware of this and has been reported.

    This has also been reported.

    With many bugs, how can you make sure this new editor is a good option for everyone of us? If it’s faulty, get it down and put the old one back. No waste.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Are they going to fix this bugs anytime soon?

    I absolutely hate this updated New Post interface.
