Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

I, too, have had issues with the new editor. It doesn’t save ANY text, whether in a new post or while editing, in visual or text mode. I figured out how to access the old editor through the Dashboard, but if I open an old post to edit it, all formatting (including line breaks) are lost. It is extremely difficult to find what you want to edit in a sea of text!
We had a recent fix with an issue related to saving changes from the Visual to Text editor. Can you please check one more time and see if it’s still not working?
Another issue I have with the new editor is the link embedding. There is no option of “naming” your link. It simply defaults to the actual link instead. Oh, I guess it doesn’t matter, really, since the new version won’t save any text!
You can easily name your link by switching to the Text Editor and using a little HTML:
<a href="http://wordpress.com">This is WordPress.com</a>This will turn to this:
https://cloudup.com/crjku2WI5c8S
So essentially:
Since this change, my photos all default to Small size, where they previously defaulted to large (my blog is photo-based, so I want them to be the main focus of my post). I haven’t been able to change the default, either.
We are aware that options are not sticking as they used to. We have reported this to our team.

Bug reporting: I edited a post with a youtube link in it. I directly paste YT links into the text editor so the videos show up as an actual embedded video and not a link. But this time, when I pasted the YT code into the text editor, when I pressed ‘update’, the YT link vanished from the post entirely and it was basically edited into a blank post.
We’ve been having issues with the post not saving changes when you move from the Visual to the Text editor; however, this has been fixed. Is this still happening for you?

Hi there,
Oh, one more thing, I searched and searched and couldn’t figure out how to change the color on font.
You should still be able to do this in the Visual Editor of the new editor as seen here:
If that’s not working for you, please let me know!
-
Can you elaborate on this? I know that Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram give way to shorter posts – are you finding it harder to create lengthier posts on the new editor? How so? Is it the size of the editor? Is it specifically the dropdowns and the extra clicks?
Thank you for the response. I appreciate it. I have several issues with the new editor. First, it’s too small. I do my blogging on a PC with a wide screen, and it was much easier to see the old editor. I am a photographer and use a lot of images, and prefer to see them in a bigger format. The formatting on new editor doesn’t allow me to see what my post will actually look when it’s published. I feel as though I’m looking at the post on a smart phone or tablet when that isn’t the case. IF my posts were short and sweet and limited to 160 characters or so, it would be fine. Generally my posts run somewhere between 500 and 1000 words with images in between (which reminds me, the word count is missing!). It’s hard to get a good grasp of what that will look like on the new editor, whereas I was able to get some idea (even without a preview) on the old one.
The new editor takes longer to load. I live in the Middle of Nowhere and have a satellite internet connection so anything that delays it makes my blogging time longer. The dropdowns and extra clicks are also making the process longer and more complicated than it used to be. Features (such as privacy settings) which were conveniently located in the publish box on the old editor are now hidden under “Advanced Settings,” requiring time to search them out. Saving a post takes longer (the wait time is about the same as waiting for it to load — anywhere from 30-60 seconds).
The auto save appears to be missing, and I am unable to preview my test post from the new editor (which I will NOT post on my blog since it is a test post). This is a MAJOR sticking point with me because I preview, review, and revise my posts quite a bit before I publish them. The reason the preview is not working is because it’s a pop-up. I have pop-ups blocked, for good reason.
I did work around it, go to “All Posts,” clicked on the test post, and had a look at it. My image was resized, appropriate for viewing on a small and/or mobile device, but not the size I intended. I have to click some more to resize it the way I want it, and the larger version, of course, takes up all of the space on the new editor which requires me to scroll more. Again, this is inefficient and is adding time to my blog posting experience.
Changes I made to the image I used in the test post appear on the new editor, but do not appear when I preview it (by using the workaround to get to the preview). I frequently use quotes in my posts, and the blockquote appeared to work on the new editor, but it does not show up as a quote in the preview. Presumably this would be the case if I had actually published the post.
Most-used tags are no longer showing up, requiring me to scroll through all of the tags I’ve ever used (I’ve been blogging with WP since 2007 so there are a lot of tags). Again, this adds additional time to my blog publishing experience. The more time added, the less likely I will be to post on a regular basis, or maybe at all, because it’s hard enough keeping up with other bloggers, comments, etc. due to having a life outside of blogging.
Those are the things I found with a brief test post. As for aesthetics, or look and feel of the new editor, I’m not sure how to elaborate on it other than to say it looks and feels quite juvenile and lacking the professional quality of the old editor. I’m not averse to change, and usually like new bells and whistles, but this seems to be taking away a lot of the ease of use we had with the old editor. More clicks, more dropdowns, more scrolling.
Thanks again for your response. I do hope those in charge will at least allow us the option of using the old editor if we wish to, leaving the new one for those who post in a more spontaneous and frivolous manner.

Hi there,
can’t write or edit posts and haven’t been able to for two days now. I just upgraded my Mac OS from 10.5 to 10.6 thinking that might solve the problem. No luck. I still get the “Updating” screen and it updates nothing. I asked for support yesterday morning and have gotten no response.
i see that Daniel is helping you with this. Please continue speaking with him regarding the matter.

Just wanted to say I also experienced bugs with this. I find it frustrating that it is getting harder to actually find the old editor, since now this “beep beep boop” (or now “loading all the things”) editor comes up when I am viewing one of my posts and click Edit, and it also comes up when I am viewing any page/post on my blog, hover over my blog name in the WordPress navigation bar (whatever that’s called– the one that appears over all WordPress.com hosted blogs), hover over New, and click Post. To avoid having to use the newer editor, I have to actually hover over my blog name and click Dashboard and, from there, hover over Posts and click Add New. It’s a lot more work.
Besides that, when I did use the “new” editor (I know it’s not “new” but it’s newly appearing where it wasn’t before) yesterday, it did not save the changes I made. I tried editing one post yesterday, made changes, saved, they didn’t show up, tried again, they didn’t show up. Same thing happened with another blog post I read and wanted to edit. I ended up having to go to the dashboard, click All Posts, and search for the name of the post I wanted to edit. This took a lot more work on my part, since I had to remember or make a note of the name the post I wanted to edit, leave the page I wanted to edit, and search elsewhere to edit it.
I don’t mind the idea of having one editor, if that’s what you’re going for. I like that, in the past several months, you have made the — what, “Short Post” editor? — more full-featured. I can see that now it is almost as full-featured as the regular editor, so I can understand why you would want to use it instead of the other one. If you are going to do that, though, please wait until it is as good as the original one before presenting it to us as the default and making us work hard to get back to the original and better version.

Did anyone of the WP developers notice that in the new Beep Beep Boop editor the tree-like list of the categories is missing? You can’t see the “child category” under its “parent category” anymore.
You only can see all categories alphabetically in an awful list.
Again, did anyone notice that there are not any suggestions to previous popular tags when the user types the first letters of the tag?
Another bad change: In HTML editor, the button for Full Screen is missing. I’m talking about the button that says “Distracting Free Writing” when the mouse is hovering over it.
Still to go on, where is the “Revisions” option in the new Beep Beep Boop editor? Nowhere, I think. All of these have been noted and relayed over to our developers.
Again, the URL editor under the post’s title is missing, too. Do WP developers know what a big problem this is for non-English blogs?
You can still edit the slug by going to Advanced Options:
-
While we can access to the old editor via dashboard > Entries > Add new (hope nothing else change, for heavens sake), we are just limited to do this, even for editing old posts of our blogs and it’s getting very frustrating to me.
I give up. Tomorrow I’ll be moving all my blog contents to another site. You have lost one WP member.
-
@gracejiyoung, a simple question: since the new edit has many bugs, you are going to keep the old editor? (Dasboard-> Posts-> Add new)
a) yes
b) no
c) do not know / no answerThe old editor will be available as we work on the new editor.

1. Use the full available screen estate.
This is my main complaint. The current editor uses a tiny fraction of my huge screens. Which I bought for the very purpose of having large windows for editing text, viewing as much of the text as possible.2. Do not mess up my HTML
There is a reason why I use HTML. It is the same reason why most Wikipedia editors use markup rather than “WYSIWYG”. Also, there is a reason why I want to make my HTML editable, with empty line between paras etc. The new editor removes newlines and unnecessary spaces. I agree, these spaces are not necessary for the HTML and even harmful for your web traffic. However, I do need them. The above reports have been noted and relayed to our developers.
It does not work with my current setup (which is Opera on Ubuntu). And since I did not notice any problem with the gazillion of other websites which I am using, from google to facebook, I assume you messed it up. Specifically, when I add text to an existing post, it does not appear — although the HTML of the post has been modified.
So is it just adding text to an existing post that does not work? Can you please open up new thread about this? It’ll be much faster to troubleshoot than to go through this entire thread. Sorry for the inconvenience!

@longshotsblues-
The only way this works is in TEXT, which is not working. Everything is being posted in VISUAL so video was completely missing. Had to do work around to old editor, only then does it work.
As seen in my screenshot, I was in the Visual Editor. Strange that it’s not working on your end. Can you please open up a new thread and we can troubleshoot that one on one. It’ll be a bit faster.

–internal scrollbar needs to be replaced, i.e., need to eliminate scrolling up and down inside posts
–need to insert links directly into the post, i.e., not have to switch from visal to text and back again
–new post needs to go to the blog itself, i.e., to the blog’s post page, not an intermediary beepboop
–spellcheck needs to be returned and made accessible as an editing tool for every post we make
–return individual poster’s ability to set default size of their choosing for images posted into blogs
–reinstate drop down menus for Tags and Categories so bloggers don’t have to scroll and scrollThanks for the report. These have all already been reported back to our developers. We are acting on these reports.
-
Also, I can’t figure out how to get the “Set Featured Image” to go to my Media Gallery. It keeps wanting me to upload something new.
We are aware of this and have reported it to our developers.
-
1. It seems to be excluded from all other core elements as the whole left sidebar is away. The right sidebar is there but the panels are not opened (extra clicks). The bottom settings are not there anymore. The top bar is different too (where is the tiny traffic per hour diagram for example?). Resulting in no usability and absolutely no accessability.
The top bar of the new editor allows you to go straight to your Reader, all your sites, and stats on the left. If you were interested in the diagram, it would be a good idea to go to your Stats page.
2. The text field is tiny as the text field in Facebook. I get claustrophobic feelings while looking at it, considering that I don´t want to write my mother a short text message but articles with media and links included, it makes it hard to work with it.
How small is the text field? From my point-of-view it isn’t as small as the one on Facebook. Here is what I’m seeing:
Let me know if that’s not the case with you.
3. Point 1 and 2 make the whole design appeal as many said. Made for vertical hold mobile phones. Remember the vertical video syndrom video? If not… take a look because this is how I feel about the new editor: Vertical Video Syndrom. Sorry but a vertical looking layout or text field looks strange like a vertical captured videos. Why I feel so? It´s the same reason… I don´t look at a vertical screen, I look at a horizontal, so called wide screen. It hurts to see a vertical paper places on a horizontal one in my opinion. I am not used to something like this.
The design of the editor was design specifically for desktop, not mobile. So, from what I’m hearing you would like the editor to be more spaced out (I guess horizontally?) rather than have everything straight in a row vertically? Let me know if I’m misunderstanding your statement.
3. Loading times are a no go today. It takes around 5 or 10 seconds to load the new editor. Even if it would just take 2 seconds, it´s a big no no!
I was able to load the new editor in about 2-3 seconds; however, I have heard users take way longer than that. This has been reported to our developers as well.

First, you cannot see the actual size of the picture until you preview the page. Even then, you have to guess at the size and re-preview until you happen to stumble on the right size. If you post multiple pictures you get to work through the nightmare repeatedly.
I can definitely see having multiple large images can be difficult to work with in the new editor. This sentiment has been repeated through this thread and our developers are aware of this. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll update you as soon as possible.
In the meantime, you can click on the Full Screen button in the editor toolbar and it should increase the size:

AMAZING! How we have all become Beta testers. . . submissively cooperative for a product which has been imposed upon us and which is so flawed it makes the Titanic hitting an iceberg banal. I am so amazed atr 21st century submissiveness.

@oldnp
There are two issues.
The one you address, which is best dealt with by either (a) stating our grievance to the right decisionmakers, or (b) taking our business elsewhere (market capitalism at its best)
The other is: we want this thing to work. The tech team’s orders are to replace the old editor with the new one. Those of us providing feedback (i.e., being submissive beta testers) want the !@#$ thing to work before they dump the old editor.
Further to the first point: @gracejiyoung: To whom and how may we address our dissatisfaction as customers on a business level? -
…oldnp: WordPress.com is the Beta for WordPress.org. Always has been, always will be.
WordPress is still the best blogging platform on the Internet… despite the frustrations associated with being Beta testers, there are many ‘workarounds’ to the problems with the new offering. And Grace has been very polite in responding to all of our concerns.
I can’t think of a Support Forum anywhere that offers the service we receive in here.
