Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?
-
@krgwriter, @akimel and @smoothjazzdaily:
I think this is the place to give technical feedback to get the new editor working right, which is great, because none of us want the “classic” editor to vanish while the beep editor is still a mess.
I’ve asked for a business-feedback contact, but haven’t seen a response to that yet. So far, all I know is the contact pages for the present and former CEOs (Matt Mullenweb and Toni Schneider, both still with the company) are available online and findable with Google searches.
@gracejiyoung: Are those the persons to whom to address customer grievances, or is there another channel set up for that?

Dear Happiness Engineers . . .
I’d like to add my voice to the choir above in complaint of the confusing changes you have made to the blogging process on wordpress.com . . . I find it virtually impossible to navigate through your new ‘silly’ aides which instead of making blogging easier make it more difficult by far . . . In editing posts and accurately uploading graphics you’ve got a real mess on your hands . . . And I am not HAPPY . . . -
@quarkone – This is the correct place to give feedback and address “customer” grievances. The bottom line truly is that if you want total control over your website, both front and back end, you will want to look at self-hosting a standalone install of the WordPress software.
Late to the party, but not going to read through all 18 pages of this thread to see if this has been mentioned already, so sorry if I’m repeating something. If this has been answered, I’d appreciate if someone would point me to it.
@gracejiyoung – If nothing else, please give us back the direct link to create a New Post in our site Dashboard in the menu that appears under our username in the Admin Bar, the link that used to lead to mysite.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php but now leads to the newdash’s wordpress.com/post/.
Thanks.

The work around is simple. Instead of clicking “New” then “Post”, just click “New” and it will open the old dashboard editor as per normal. :-)

@justjennifer “if you want total control over your website, both front and back end, you will want to look at self-hosting a standalone install of the WordPress software.”:
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t that install include the beepbeepboop editor?
cheers/Rolf

There isn’t one under the username, but there is one under the blog name in the admin bar. Click on that then click on the New item in the menu. Don’t click on the sub-menu, just click on the word “New”

Thanks. Yes, that is an appropriate alternative. I in particular am not looking for total control. But I would like someone in a decision-making capacity here to reconsider this project. It seems ill conceived, which is a shame, because Automattic has been so smart about so many things. It’s as if someone missed the boat and the message isn’t being received at the right level. It’s seldom really too late to abandon a bad idea.
On the other hand, if the aim is to shed a lot of sophisticated users (which could be a legitimate business goal, although some users will hate it), from reviewing this chain I would say that mission is probably accomplished.
Or maybe there is something about the classic editor that is too costly to maintain. If so, no one has bothered to tell us. Maybe there’s a legitimate reason for keeping that kind of information confidential. I don’t know.
But when something that works so well is abandoned for something terribly flawed, I think it is natural for dedicated and loyal users to want to test the legitimacy of decision with management. We want Automattic to succeed in a big way with this WordPress.com platform, and we don’t want to see it degraded for short-sighted reasons or mistaken assumptions, especially where such mistakes hurt our ability to use it effectively. -
@gracejiyoung
I am posting as a Volunteer trying to help in other threads. This lengthy thread is not useful when it comes to helping bloggers in otherthreads. Is it possible to create a sticky post at the top of the forums in the form of a list post?
list item by item
(1) what has been removed and will not be brought back (word count, copy and post, etc.)
(2) which outstanding issues have been reported to the developers as a bug that they are working on correctingSuch a list would be helpful and without it I’m either coming here over and over, or I’m sending bloggers to this thread where either I or they have too comb through 18 pages, primarily filled with non-useful bitching and moaning comments that do not provide the information they require.
Thanks, in advance, for considering my request.

@gracejiyoung
P.S. I have noticed that some bloggers posting here are not aware of the changes made in March, or the changes such as removing the scrollbar from the post editor which was done in July https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/removing-the-scrollbar-from-the-post-editor-one-of-the-worst-improvements-yet/page/13?replies=386 Perhaps providing a brief run-down of those changes in a sticky post would be helpful too. -

I second tt’s requests.
Thanks everyone for all the replies about the New Post link. In all the sites that appear when I hover my mouse over my username on the right side of the black Admin Bar at the top of the page, every link to create a New Post, regardless of what site I choose (and I have 7 active sites), now leads to the New Dash New Post editor and not my site’s Dashboard>New Post editor. That is the link I want returned.
If I want to get to the New Dash New Post editor, I can already do that when hovering my mouse on the WPcom “W” on the left side of the black Admin Bar.
Come on WPcom, let me decide where I want to create my post!

Has anyone yet asked about the “Confirm Navigation” warning? The classic editor warns me when I try to close before saving (a feature that has saved many posts), but the boop editor doesn’t seem to do that yet.
(P.S. I liked the removal of the scroll bar in the classic editor. The auto-expansion helped me see the whole post. But it’s not a big deal either way.)

@gracejiyoung
While we have your attention, can I repeat one bug which has been mentioned rarely, but is serious in a blog that relies on blockquoting a lot.Working in visual editing mode, if I see an italic in the blockquote, it will now show as non-italic to a reader. And if I make it non-italic, it will show as italic to a reader. This is clearly nonsense.
And please stop saying Nice and I’m awesome. I am not a 9 year-old.
And preview doesn’t work … another feature I need to use a lot.
Thank you.

Hi @timethief!
Is it possible to create a sticky post at the top of the forums in the form of a list post?
list item by item
(1) what has been removed and will not be brought back (word count, copy and post, etc.)
(2) which outstanding issues have been reported to the developers as a bug that they are working on correctingFirst I just want to say, thank you so much for all your help! I really do appreciate it. :)
And second of all, this is a great idea. I’ve talked to my team, and we will be posting this up shortly.
Also to the users in this thread:
I will also start replying to everyone right after the post I mentioned above from where I left off yesterday! I apologize for the delay.
Cheers!

I in particular am not looking for total control. But I would like someone in a decision-making capacity here to reconsider this project.
Being a free blogging platform (regardless of paid upgrades), the environment here may change without warning. WPcom is effectively the beta test for features that are released in WP standalone. Over the past nearly 8 years, I’ve learned to become very zen about it.
Eventually this thread will probably be closed, just like this one https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/posting-articles-2?replies=110

@rolfstr – not having a standalone WP install, I could not say 100%, but I believe that the New Dash and the “Beep, Beep, Boop” is an exclusive to WordPress.com feature (for now). If it does come to WP standalone, you can be sure that someone, somewhere will create a plugin to turn it off. :) Of course, we cannot use those same plugins on WPcom.

No word count
No proofreading
Confusing scheduling
The new format:Bad default setting for “save” ; the default is instant publication rather than draft, which will mean a lot of accidental postings
No “paste as plain text” (BIG problem)
Very slow loading, even slower saving
You cannot edit photographs in this format. Gallery’s have no “edit” link. Individual photos are missing the functions that allow you to set their position (left, center, right, none) and size
You cannot change or add a caption. Even if you set it up using the “classic” mode, you cannot edit it in the new one.
Since nothing works as it ought AND it take a lot longer to even load, exactly how is this an improvement over anything? It’s full of bugs and contains significantly less functionality. So the answer is use the old format? Why add a useless new one? What exactly — other than alienating users — is your goal here?

@gracejiyoung: Are those the persons to whom to address customer grievances, or is there another channel set up for that?All customer grievances can be relayed to Happiness Engineers like myself, through our support channels, such as this forum.
I will be going through the thread and will answer your questions in the order that I’ve received them. Sorry for the delay.

I know that I am a computer dud at heart, but I have really enjoyed posting articles on my blog. This silly beep-a-beep stuff when I edit – or try to edit – is a misery. Please go back to the old (and simple, for us duds) way of editing!
And here I thought it was just me!!!
