Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?
-
This disaster also has “bugs!” Not only is it hugely juvenile in look and feel, but does NOT save your changes/edits — it changes your HTML/coding and causes it to be all bunched together instead of nice and clean as originally created … adding in code and close tags – the options are awful, the save function/update isn’t saving, and it’s, for the most part – a gas-lighting disaster.
There is/was NO reason to change the edit screen from what looked exactly like the post screen. EVERY option worked, it was EASY on the eyes, it worked perfectly – it was mature in look and feel and there were no glitches.
I genuinely hope that this new interface is nothing short of a temporary implant – placed there while they’re working out some kind of update – because this is horrible. Have any of you actually tried to edit and then preview with it? Your changes aren’t there. And what’s with the pop-up window to see your preview in? WHO NEEDS POP UPS?
Very disappointed! I edit quite often and this new interface and/or change will definitely crush my desire to “play” on wordpress.

I found a workaround!
When you go to the drop-down menu on the left of the grey Admin bar, and you get to NEW, instead of opening up the drop down menu options Page, Post, etc, just click the word New. Gets you straight to the fully featured dashboard editor.

Oh … and PS – since this “lovely” immature, dysfunctional change – my posts, as well as my updates – AREN’T SHOWING UP IN THE READER! Where’s support to respond to any of our concerns, complaints and questions? Hmmmmm?

Your posts are not displaying on the Reader and the Topics (Categories and Tags) pages due to completely different issue, a self caused one.
All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-postsAs you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.
You are inadvertently spamdexing AKA tag spamming. And, you ought to be more concerned about your posts not appearing and being well ranked on Google and Bing SERPS (search results pages) than not appearing on the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for tag spamming.
The rule of thumb is to assign to your posts the least, not the most, combined number of only relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the individual post content.

I am not pleased with the beep-boop editor, either. Had been considering upgrading my blog, but will not do so with this new editor in place. I’m not even sure I’ll stay with WordPress after this one if it’s true, as TimeThief mentions, that we should just “get used to it” in spite of WP users not liking the change. I understand WP is trying to keep up with mobile device users, but many of us do not use mobile devices when we’re blogging.

Yet another issue with this juvenile and dysfunctional new screen – trying to update, edit or change categories or tags is yet another grueling task now – now scroll bars – you have to keep scrolling your own screen. Being somewhat new to WP (3 months old) – I didn’t realize the difference between categories and tags until recently. With near 70 posts to go back through to change categories into tags and add appropriate categories – so that I can then add a category widget – the attempt to do so with this new horrific interface is a mumbled time-consuming job of frustration.

@planetdreamdiaries
Are you also aware that the days of loading a mile long blogroll every time your front page loads disappeared in 2009 because the value of reciprocal links is diddly squat? Search engines assume they are solicited links so why have them in the widget on the front page? Why not place them on a static page so the page rank of your blog isn’t getting sucked dry? -
@timethief
I was attempting to be whimsical but if they really have been working on this for a year this is a pretty poor result!
I always create new via the dashboard and it looks as though I will have to do the same for edits in future. Although a little more long winded it works well enough via that route so long as no one disables it in the future!
I do think that it would be a good idea for WordPress to give advance notice of these changes – it would save a lot of knee jerk reaction and bother! -
@planetdreamdiaries
Have you actually tried the workaround raincoaster posted here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/beep-beep-boop-screen-is-a-joke-is-this-a-glitch/page/2?replies=62#post-1993593 ? -
Oh, i see, im not the first one with this problem…

I agree robinanne – I NEVER use a mobile device for creating or updating posts. The ONLY times I’ve used it was to “check-in” and see if anyone has commented or liked my posts – check my notifications – and I don’t even reply to them via mobile. I would venture to guess that MOST writers would not be writing via a mobile device – especially those such as myself who utilize a great deal of visualization (true visualization via art, music and specifically paragraphed layouts) – not easily or appropriately done via a mobile device …. not to mention that many writers – the best to the move novice, would most likely NOT prefer thumb typing on a tiny mobile keyboard while typing out the words to their soul. Disaster to the fullest.
And again – sorry to repeat – even when going around the long way – through Admin, All Posts, Edit – where the old editor does still exist – once opening “text” – the entire coding has been jumbled and tightened up so badly that you can barely recognize where it is you need to make your change – forced tag closing and the removal of clearly seen spacing – by using line spacing codes (forced, not inserted there by us). *taps foot waiting on WordPress to respond to us*

“please at least give us an option to disable it. The new editor is totally absurd, terrible, ugly, impractical, unusable, frustrating, uncustomizable, childish, discouraging, preposterous, chaotic, unhandy, inefficient, foolish and useless!!! “

Yes timethief and thank you sweetheart. You can get to the old editor there, but it’s a jumbled mess of code – they’ve highjacked our code – inserting line break tags and removing all spacing – so that you can barely see or find the line or words you are looking for to update – a complete and absolutely disaster. Not to mention as others have said – a very long and unwarranted work around – when a wonderful, easy, clear, clean editor that looked and acted as the new post screen was already in place.
I also noticed that after making a large edit, when updating the time of post to reflect the edit – via the new “disaster” – upon then viewing my edit through the long work around bringing me to the old editor – the new time was completely off – 4 hours into the future?
-
I’m not a fan, either, especially as this has come with new bugs (code tags broken for anyone else?). If anyone who was responsible reads this, understand that if you’re going to make a website that tries to be cute, displaying “Beep Boop”, “Oops,” etc, then you’d better be Google-level good and make sure your website actually works first.
-
Experiment, because it can’t just be me.
Try to edit a post via the new “blooper” – change a word, a paragraph, the time – click update – then preview … do you see your changes? You won’t, because they aren’t there. *sighs* – My new found and treasured creative little home as been turned to ashes in which I wish to leave. :(
-
Yes windfarmmuisc – I too am experiencing broken codes, inserted codes that I myself didn’t place there – and an ugly visual mess of code that removes all of your spacing so that you can clearly and easily edit.
-
This is a blog post on how to get to your old blog post editor on WordPress…..if you find it simple to follow, share it with your wordpress bloggin family.
-
And so very sorry to repeat and rant – but having to go back into nearly 70 posts to remove categories and add tags (a concept I hadn’t realized when first finding myself on WP) – the “new” disaster screen has turned the possibility of doing so into a time-consuming, frustrating, far too grueling process. Thus, disabling me from setting up appropriate categories and tags, so that I can then add a category widget — I don’t have the time (I do have a life) to be spending on doing this in the new format/interface that has been forced on us. Huge thumbs down. So very sad – I was genuinely loving and enjoying becoming a part of a wonderful and creative community – but when something I love becomes a chore – I tend to leave it in the past. :(

Got to add my voice to this. The new interface is horrible, and degrades your editing control rather than enhances it. It forces you to take MORE steps to do what you want to do. I agree with many of the posts already written here that there needs to be an ability to opt in to the previous editing format without having to jump through all the hoops of going to your dashboard, clicking on all posts and then clicking on edit post. That new beep, beep, boom thing has to go. I thought I was getting hacked or getting to an error page. Not to mention the editing I was forced into never saved and completely corrupted my entire post making my text editing option MORE confusing and MORE difficult to work in. This is not an improvement at all. I’m all for updating if it adds functionality and capabilities and speed and fewer keystrokes. This update does NONE of that. You want a positive and productive discussion, WordPress? Then address the issues that have been raised in this thread! Thanks!
