Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @loujenhaxmyor

    Since the new editor was put in, all of my posts on my primary blog loujenhaxmyor.wordpress.com have had all text reformatted. Originally most of my poems were aligned left but centered in the page. Now every one of them (for the past year) has been misaligned. Last night I tried going back a few months to correct them. They started looking fine this morning, until I put in a new post– and they all immediately misaligned.

    This is very strange! Can you please open up a new thread and we can help you troubleshoot this a bit faster.

    Thank you!

    Those of us who use media are unable to do so in the new editor.

    Can you please explain what you mean by this? Is the Add Media button no longer there for you?

    Those of us who use our entire screen do to low vision are not able to see due to the ‘shrink’ of the new editor.

    As seen in the New Editor Improvements thread, the size has been increased:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=3

    Those of us who pay for premium services and themes are seeing those services and themes don’t functions as they should.

    This has been noted and relayed over to our developers for review. We will update the thread above with upcoming changes.

    the “new editor’ — nameless, faceless, and hiding behind curtains of code — has taken it upon him/her/itself — without consulting with me as blog author and poster — to remove numerous images from past posts I’ve made on several of my WP blogs.

    I haven’t heard of the new editor causing images to be removed from past posts. It looks like this isn’t related to changes from the classic to new editor. Can you please open up a new thread and we can troubleshoot this with you? Thank you.

    @undermyappletree

    – No proofreader
    – No word count
    – Post status defaults to Publish. Seriously? Does anyone publish on the first draft?
    – It stripped out code that I had entered to add spaces
    – It’s slow to save.

    These have all been noted and forwarded to our developers as seen here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=3

    – Cannot preview in full screen. I block all pop-ups so I can’t preview at all.

    This will need to be unblocked in order to view your Preview. If you need help with unblocking WordPress.com in your browser, please let me know and I’d be happy to give you further instructions.

    We will keep this thread and the thread above as soon as we hear them.

    @behindthewillows

    The new one is far to small and what was perhaps designed to be a “streamlined” look took away many of the very useful features of the old editor.

    We have increased the size of the new post editor as seen here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=3

    Take a look for other updates about missing features/bugs. Thank you!

    @twindaddy44

    I completely lost a post in the new editor when the screen refreshed for no reason. The old editor autosaved every few moments. The new one doesn’t at all. This new posts editor is horrible

    The new editor will save the post you were working on in the browser, so if you somehow left that post, it should appear when you reload the new editor page. If this is not the case, can you please open up a new thread so that we can troubleshoot this a bit faster with you? Thank you!

    Help. I now click on ‘Dashboard’ and I don’t get any reaction whatsoever!
    When I click on my previous Log-in tab in Firefox nothing happens.
    If I click on ‘New Post’ I just get the beep beep boop cr*p and the option to create a new post but no access to all my other posts.
    If I click on the ‘Switch to Classic Mode’ button absolutely nothing happens!

    Can you please open up a new thread? We can troubleshoot this a lot easier one-on-one. Please tag your thread with “modlook”.

    Thank you!

    @wattsupwiththat

    1. It turns a process that used to take 1-2 seconds into something that takes several seconds, sometimes as long as 30 seconds. My timing this morning was 17 seconds to get the create a new post dialog. A second attempt took 32 seconds after I cleared the crash dialog (see below).

    4. It is inconsistent with the rest of the wp.com user experience. For example, no “beep boop” appears when you try to create a new page.

    9. It comes up in text editor mode, more work, more wait to switch to visual editor mode.<

    We are aware of this and has been reported to our developers.

    2. It is visually annoying. It makes me want to scream at the screen.

    Can you please explain with a little more detail? It’d help us to know exactly how this new design is affecting your workflow.

    5. It presents a smaller editor than we used to get, which isn’t fully representative of the CSS settings for width of your theme.

    The size has been increased as seen in our new editor update thread here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=3

    8. The “Welcome to an easier way to create on WordPress.com! Missing the old editor? No worries, just switch to classic mode. ” feature doesn’t seem to “stick”.

    Can you please check your cookies? I just tested this and it was working for me, so if you find that it isn’t working, can you please open up a new thread and tag it “modlook”? Thank you!

    @3songsbonn

    To those who have to click back to the old ‘classic’ Dashboard. You’re lucky – clicking on the link to the old dashboard leads to no reaction whatsoever. Clicking on Dashboard anywhere goes nowhere!

    Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?

    Solve Common Browser Issues

    This will bring you back to the new editor. Try clicking on the banner link to go back to the Classic editor. If it goes nowhere again can you please open up a new thread and tag it “modlook”? Thank you!

    @sensuouscurmudgeon

    I wonder … are the programmers who gave us Beep Beep Boop even aware of this thread? Or are they just getting notes from the Happiness Engineers about a few bugs that need fixing in their otherwise glorious creation?

    Yes they have, in addition to receiving reports from HE’s like myself.

    And does management know only that Beep Beep Boop has been launched, and it requires just a few tweaks?

    Yes they are aware. Take a look here for all announcements regarding improvements/changes to the new editor:

    @windwhistle

    I just tried to add a paragraph to a previously published post with a YouTube video in it. I was using the new edit screen. When I previewed the change, the video did not appear, only its URL.

    We are aware of this and it has been reported. Please take a look at this post regarding bug/suggestions:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=3

    We will update that post in addition to this thread with new changes regarding this editor.

    @johnjronline

    Also as some other people have reported already, the new editor not only takes a long time to load (sometimes 30-something seconds on a cable internet connection), but it also causes my browser (Firefox 31 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) to freeze and dim briefly like it is going to crash every time it loads; and it never remembers my preference for the dashboard editor like others have reported (I have Firefox set to Permanent Private Browsing Mode), and so I am always taken to the new editor by accident when I click to edit a post from my Home Page or from a post itself.

    We are aware of these issue. As for the Private Browsing mode in Firefox, it does not remember your cookies so your browser will not remember your choice in choosing the old editor. You can read more about this here:

    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Supporting_private_browsing_mode

    In order for your choice to be remembered, please turn this off.

    As for any changes and improvements, please keep an eye on this post:

    @travelgalcindy

    How do I get it to STAY in classic mode? Everytime I close WP it forgets that I set it to classic and defaults back to the completely useless new editor, requiring me to let that s-l-o-w-l-y load and then reload in classic mode before I can actually post anything. (What a waste of time!) The notes here say you can set classic as the default, but don’t say how.

    If you have turned on private browsing, or are using the incognito window in Google Chrome your cookies are deleted after you close the browser window. In order to remember your choice (of using the classic editor) your cookies cannot be deleted.

    If this is not the case for you can you please open up a new thread and we can help troubleshoot this with you. Please tag your thread with “modlook”. Thank you!

    Hi all,

    You can now edit gallery type and view a preview of the gallery in the new editor as seen here:

    Cheers!

    Dear site management, developers, programmers and happiness engineers and other staff involved in the Beep Beep Boop thing: IF indeed we shall not have the option to use the “classic” editor when the bugs have been ironed out of the new one: AT LEAST… remove the Beeps and the Boop as well as the bubbles. I am well past the age of four.

    Thank you in advance

    Hello Gracejiyoung,

    Thank you, I hope that a permanent option is made because I always use Private Browsing Mode (but fortunately there is still the manual option available on the Dashboard, and so I will keep using that for now), and I will try to remember to follow that other topic to stay updated on the changes. ;)

    @gracejiyoung

    Going forward, when the New Dash Post Editor is complete, will community members still have access to the fully functional Classic Post Editor?

    If so, will users be able to make the Classic Post Editor their default editor?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @justjennifer

    Let’s hope so! I’m sure it would alienate an awful lot of long-time WP users if they do not do so.

  • Unknown's avatar

    /waving @gastephen

    These same questions have been asked a number of times. A definitive answer we don’t have! :/

  • Unknown's avatar

    This is Public Relations 101:

    1) Company learns from customers it has made a mistake
    2) Company admits mistake to customers
    3) Company determines amount of time to fix mistake
    4) Company tells customers it will fix mistake and its ETA

    You do not go silent as WordPress has done concerning the fate of the “classic” editor — and the ability of unchecking Screen Options to be remembered after Save Draft/Publish and as a default setting.
