Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

@diaryofdennis
Hi there,
Every WordPress.org install has the TinyMCE editor bundled into the install. The 3.9 update “trimmed” the number of features down. The plugin for Advanced TinyMCE is this one https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/ -
Thank you TIme. This is something I would want to install then. I will bookmark it in case I must go the selhosting route.

Given the feedback in this post, if the Classic Editor is removed, that will be a deal breaker for a lot of people here.

“I hesitate to mention this here — because I don’t want WP to mess with it — but the simplest way (mentioned previously be a few others) to find OE (Old Editor) is to go to the front page of your blog site > click on the name of your site in the upper left-hand corner of the screen > select and click New from the drop down menu (NOT New Post or New Page or New Anything else, just NEW).”
Susanbourne’s suggestion doesn’t work for me.
Whichever I click on: Dashboard, New Comments, Customize, or Widgets nothing opens at all. Only when I click on sub-menus does it go anywhere – the cr*ppy ‘BBB’ joke screen. -

There is a blogger with visual impairment who has accessibility issues. I do not want that “modlooked” thread to get lost here so I am cross-referencing by posting the link to the thread here

New to this controversy after being out of town for over three weeks.A few thoughts and observations:
The new editor strikes me as something akin to when the Reader was completely redesigned. From someone who uses a desktop for blogging, the new editor layout seems to be directed to a more mobile device crowd (tablet and smartphone) – hence the narrower editor layout. Whether or not this was the basis for the new layout, it does make it more difficult particularly for those who use a desktop or laptop for their blogging. Since it appears WP is likely committed to the new editor at some future full-rollout date, the development team also needs to work on the full-screen mode for those who may/will continue blogging on a desktop. (Not everything displays correctly when in full-screen mode.)
Having been on WP since Jan 2006, I’ve seen plenty changes and some of the bugginess as the changes through the years. I suspect this particular change may be a difficult one since the new editor layout is not as intuitive as the “classic” version. It will take time to adjust and adapt to how it functions.
Best regards.

As Einstein famously remarked, “everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler”.

I read through 9 pages but couldn’t find the answer I was looking for.
Can someone, pref from staff as they will know as a definitive, if the work around which is being suggested (and I guess indeed used by 99% of wordpress.com users) will be permanent or will that option be taken away and we will be forced to use the rather childish beep beep boop or whatever it says option.
-
Have you noticed there isn’t an option to add or edit subheadings to posts in the BBB-Editor? My premium theme supports them, see an example here: http://couchkartoffelchips.wordpress.com/2014/08/03/kate-bush-experiment-iv/ (“Song des Tages” is the subheadline)
I’d hate it to see such small but useful posting choices vanish into thin air.

The staff answer, so far, is here:

Why take something that works and totally mess it up???
@pakamo3711: that is a common trend on the Internet, they call it “progress”.

Please return the old editor on a permanent basis. The new one is a bit of a joke and represents a significant downgrade.
Thank you- -
@knashermac2009-ah, thank you for jogging my memory about the upload trick you had. I now remember our forum discussions about it breaking with the “new” Gallery.
Anyway, my real point is that old posts (with the gallery shortcode [gallery] ) cannot be edited with Beep Beep Bloop because it loads all the pictures uploaded to the blog (in my case 12,000) instead of all pictures uploaded to the post.
THAT is a problem for anyone who used the Gallery feature prior to the update in November 2012 and one that will have to be addressed by Staff.
This means that if the classic editor is removed, then I am stuck (cannot edit posts with old galleries); and if the old style gallery is removed, then my old posts with old galleries cannot be viewed.
Cannot edit, yes. Cannot be viewed, I don’t believe it should make a difference. But then again, who am I to talk? I have quite a number of flickr oembeded slideshows currently missing. (Can we also mention p-i-c-a-p-p, for those who remember it, which also disappeared?)

gracejiyoung, or any Happiness Engineer:
I’m repeating this from yesterday, because it’s important:
It would be very useful if you could give us the estimated date the developers are considering for the retirement of the “classic” editor. Will it be this week, next week, a month from now, or what?
Those of us who can’t use Beep Beep Boop need to start considering our alternatives. It takes time to decide where to go, to get a new blog started, and to transfer our contents there. Also, we need to give our readers proper notice about what’s going to happen. They deserve to know. And, frankly, so do we.

One way to work quicker using the insultingly slow beep beep bore editor is to open up two or three posts at the same time and edit them whilst the other takes ages to load.
Another ‘issue’ with the new editor I discovered today is that you choose a different ‘featured’ image and save it but it loads up a different image!
Quite honestly, I have never encountered such a messed-up supposed ‘upgrade’ any time on internet as this. Its worse than any of the most infamous Microsoft foul ups
