Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

    I also agree with – “Fully support and in agreement with gastephen’s “AN OPEN LETTER TO MANAGEMENT”

  • Unknown's avatar

    As I see it from reading above.

    If I start a new post on my laptop and I then want to continue the post on my mobile phone when I’m out, I won’t be able to as it saves to the browser on my laptop and not WordPress servers.

    Or I start a new post and my laptop dies half way through, which it has a tendency to do lately, then I won’t be able to continue it in the local library.

    Am I reading it right?

  • Unknown's avatar

    A vigorous AMEN to @gastephen for the open letter. ‘Couldn’t agree more strongly. If the classic editor is to be phased out, the very least WP could do is to put a date to this so that we can make arrangements to find new platforms, and give our blog readers a heads up notice. The efforts of the volunteers in this forum has been laudable, the lack of consideration from WP has been incredible.

    I STILL can’t get editor to stay in the classic mode. It’s not a cookie probablem – at least not on my end.

    This is especially a problem for editing existing posts because the beep boop editor doesn’t have any way to easily grab links to earlier blog posts like the classic one does. I use this feature in every post! Last spring I transferred 1500 posts from Blogger to WP and I am still cleaning up the links. This means that I have to change to the classic editor for EACH and EVERY post still in need of updating. Even if we are allowed to continue using the classic editor (looks like that won’t be the case, since nothing is being done to allow us to continue to have easy access to it), this feature needs to be added to the new editor.

    The new editor also needs to use a smaller font because it wastes so much space I can hardly see my posts! I use a lot of photos and you can’t even see the whole photo! It also needs to ditch the drop-down menus so I can see at a glance what tags and categories I have.

    Meanwhile I have to decide if I am going to dump WP (which I haven’t really loved anyway), as there is no sense finishing the fine tuning of my transferred posts if I’m just going to have to transfer them again. As others have said, some info on what the plan for the future is would be useful. It’s all very frustrating.

    If my draft backup has been saved only to the browser and I have occasion to clear my browser cache before returning to it, that draft will be gone, yes?

  • Unknown's avatar

    May I add this issue? I posted it here originally: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/can-no-longer-search-for-and-link-to-a-blogpost

    “I was wondering if it was still possible to find and link to a blogpost with the new editor? I can only see space to paste a link we already have, rather than search for a post. Of course, I can still search my blog for the post I’m looking for from the main page, but it was so helpful being able to do this directly in the editor.”

    I’m seeing quite a few individuals reporting that the cookie setting isn’t sticking. If your browser preference is not saving, please follow these steps:

    1. Clear your browser cache
    2. Navigate to wordpress.com/post when logged in
    3. Click “Switch to classic editor”
    4. Navigate to your Dashboard and then to Posts -> Add New. You will get diverted to the classic editor
    5. Right click the screen and click “Inspect Element”
    6. Click “Console”.
    7. Run the following command:
      document.cookie
    8. Somewhere in the output, you should see the following:
      wpcom_ioeditor_optout=true

    If you do not see that cookie, can you please let me know the following?

    • What browser and version are you using?
    • Does this occur in all browsers?
    • Can you confirm that cookies are turned on and that you aren’t browsing in a private window?

    Please note, clicking “New Post” in the upper right-hand corner will continue to link you to the new editor.

    @ismailimail

    I would prefer we get really advance heads up on this because I don’t see TinyMCE folks going the same route in their development of this product. Or am I missing something?

    The new editor maintains the look and feel of TinyMCE. But as we continue to develop new editions of the editor, the look and feel may change. So, the toolbars on future versions of the editor might not parallel with TinyMCE.

    @ gastephen

    Are you doing anything about the bug in sizing images added to a post when using the BBB editor?

    I did a quick scan throughout the threads here, and I wasn’t able to find a previous report of this issue. Can you let me know if this is happening across all of your blogs (i.e. if the size is always dropped to 600)? I’m wondering if this has to do with the theme in some way.

    @strangera

    Here is a short video to illustrate my frustration with the new “editor” –

    And yes, my cookies are ON!

    Thanks for the report. I’ve passed that video along. There are some slow loading issues we’re working on. I don’t have any suggestions for you yet.

    As far as the cookie issue, could you try the steps listed above?

    @leeinblack

    If this new editor is for mobile devices only, are we desktop users being saddled with it too?

    The new editor was designed desktop-first and was then made responsive. It wasn’t designed for mobile devices only.

    @wildhairyhaggis

    If I start a new post on my laptop and I then want to continue the post on my mobile phone when I’m out, I won’t be able to as it saves to the browser on my laptop and not WordPress servers.

    To prevent this, just click “Preview”. That will save the post so it can be accessed from your Dashboard or from the mobile app.

    I STILL can’t get editor to stay in the classic mode. It’s not a cookie probablem – at least not on my end.

    Please follow the steps above!

    @windwhistle

    If my draft backup has been saved only to the browser and I have occasion to clear my browser cache before returning to it, that draft will be gone, yes?

    Yep! However, all you have to do to prevent this is click “Preview”, which will save the post so it can be accessed from your Dashboard going forward.

    How do I unsubscribe to this forum? The notification emails do not have an unsubscribe button.

    Thank you, Y

  • Unknown's avatar

    @theprettybooks I hadn’t noticed that particular oversight before. That’s a bad one. I always try to include links to any relevant older posts, and not having that search function to quickly find the URLs and titles among my 2,400 posts is going to be a major headache. It will mean leaving the edit page to go find the link, copy it, and then come back to paste it in. Same for the title. Agh!

    (Of course I hadn’t noticed this because I’m not using the BBB editor.)

    @ylin002–If you come back to the actual thread in the forum, there is an unsubscribe link in the right column under “about this topic”

    Per jeremeylduvall:

    The new editor was designed desktop-first and was then made responsive. It wasn’t designed for mobile devices only.

    That makes it even scarier that someone at WP thought this was a good idea…. :-

  • Unknown's avatar

    The new editor, when it appears, contains fragments of a previously abandoned draft. Unless I’m overlooking it, there is no “Trash” button to delete it. The new editor needs a Trash button.

    jeremeylduvall:

    The cookie is there, but the browser keeps defaulting to the new one (whether I’m creating a new post or editing an existing post, although I’m guessing you are going to tell me that there isn’t any way to change the default for editing existing posts).

    I’m using Firefox. I don’t use other browsers (I have someone check for format problem in others). My cookies seem to be turned on. I haven’t a clue what it means to be in a private browsing window. I have my own domain and post from that address, not from the underlying WP address. Don’t know if that makes it a private window or not. I’m a photographer and writer, NOT a programmer.

    I also have the issue with all the pictures loading small, even though the default I have set for my template, which works in classic mode, is set to load them full size.

    Beginning to think I made a big mistake switching to WP last year :-(

  • Unknown's avatar

    @jeremeylduvall
    I’ve checked in both Chrome (Version 36.0.1985.143) and Firefox (Version 31.0). The cookie is shown in both. Nevertheless, in Chrome, when I start on my home page as I always do, go to the dropdown menu and click New > Post, I’m still sent to the BBB screen and new editor. (If I only click New, I’m sent to the old editor.)

    I can’t duplicate this in Firefox because since the new editor was introduced, the admin bar does not show on my home page. If I get to the Dashboard via a bookmark or through WordPress.com/sites/, clicking Posts > Add New takes me to the old editor.

    My biggest gripe is still that there’s no bypassing the BBB screen when I want to edit a published post, and it takes longer for BBB to load than it does to do a quick edit.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve skimmed a lot of this thread, but I admit I got fatigued and skipped some pages. I haven’t seen much chatter about the impact of the new editor on sites using Markdown.

    In short, using Markdown with the new editor is simply unworkable. The old editor worked well enough as long as you stayed in the Text tab. The new one will even do things like wrap your post up in fresh HTML tags, thus changing its formatting and meaning.

    I’ve posted about it and captured some screen shots here.

    Of course, this is assuming that WP thinks that Markdown is actually a valuable feature. At the moment, it looks like they think it is something they tacked on and don’t have to support.

    Yes, 675px wide images inserted at ‘full size’ get squished to 660px wide in BBB on both http://geotopoi.wordpress.com and http://lustrebox.wordpress.com/ This does not happen when editing posts on those blogs with the classic editor.

    No worries on not finding my previous mention of this issue – it was back on page 24 of this thread:

    Including an image full size did not work – it was still resized. Trying to add tags was fiddly and cumbersome (where has autocomplete gone, for instance?). Trying to preview a post simply did not work properly. The screen layout and usability are poor – why all the extra clicks to access items on the right-hand bar for example?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Okay, I don’t want to hear about how I can add yet another bookmark so I get to go to my actual dashboard post editor and new post creator — I want to tell you that WordPress used to WORK for those of us that are visual bloggers and this new “easy” thing is just dumb. I want the option of PERMANENTLY keeping the “classic” look – hey — don’t you guys remember what happened when they took Classic Coke and changed it? STOP IT! It isn’t better — it is awful awful awful and this smacks of a stupid etsy maneuver! Hate it! HATE. IT. (five blogs between business and personal — dkatiepowellart, zenkatwrites, mpfconservation, katwritesfood, and my husband’s.

    I’ve mentioned the photo sizing problem twice. I use Gridspace.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Do we know how much longer the classic editor will still be an option?
