Beep Beep Boop screen is a joke. Is this a glitch?

  • Unknown's avatar

    The problem with this new change is, if I wish to make an update to an older article with new information, I have to go to the dashboard, and then search through numerous articles, page by page, what a pain! You wordpress guys & gals missed out on the classic wisdom ‘if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it’ … precisely why I left scribd and came to wordpress . Now, will you kindly create a simple option of a button or something to keep the old edit option as it was (easy)

    @penucquem I share your frustration, I left Blogger because of the same problem expecting that WP would be an improvement. I do appreciate the volunteers’ time and effort here — but they can’t be expected to provide the “customer service” which the staff should be doing. The volunteers are catching the flack the staff should be fielding. There may be some rationale for the changes, but the new interface appears to be something designed for mobile devices and not those who need or want some serious editing features.

    To Edit, go to Dashboard->Posts->All Posts and go to the particular post, and click Edit. That gives you the full-featured editor. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/beep-beep-boop-screen-is-a-joke-is-this-a-glitch/page/4?replies=104#post-1993873

    I did do this, when you click on edit on text, it looks horrendous.

    Example:

    <p>O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
    The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
    The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
    While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
    But O heart! heart! heart!
    O the bleeding drops of red,
    Where on the deck my Captain lies,
    Fallen cold and dead.
    </p><p>O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
    Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
    For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
    For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
    Here

    How can one edit anything within this? I have pictures/video’s I want spaced, in visual it makes it impossible with some. I always used the &nsp ( or whatever similar) on text, worked fine.

    This workaround is no work around if it looks like above.

    I was about to pay to get my own domain but with this atrocious damage to the simple edit format we have enjoyed, WordPress has destroyed any enjoyment of writing or posting here which is very sad. They took something that wasn’t broke and destroyed it.

    Well what I copied didn’t paste to what I am seeing, what I’m seeing is garbled. Ughhhh Why would they do this. WHY???

  • Unknown's avatar

    I am the original poster (and a paying customer).
    I feel like a victim of fraud. I compared WordPress.com, Tumblr and Blogger. I eventually paid $300 for WordPress.com because I thought if you paid for something it would be better.
    At the start, WordPress.com was easy to use. Over time, is slowly got worse. Today, a major new change to the site further prevents ease of use and requires annoying “work-arounds”.
    At this rate, WordPress.com will become completely useless to me.
    ———————————–
    WordPress.com, if you are listening and if you truly respect and appreciation your customers, please provide separate options for multi-device and PC users, as most users don’t use touch-screen devices to routinely created or edit posts.

    Hi there,

    I just wanted to chime in here quickly and say sorry about the mixup with the wrong thread. I have set this to be the main thread to collect constructive feedback on the update linking to the new editor.

    I will be looking through the thread to collect all the pain points mentioned and relay them to our team. Considering the length of this thread, it will take a bit, but I just wanted to say quickly that I will be going through this shortly.

    Thank you!

    This new editor is really bad.

    This is a real novelty and superlative fudge, which is what we should have invented fire without compensation or unemployment by useless, incompetent and sloppy.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hope this fix and also take into account the thousands of users who have a normal blog (not “Premium”) and that we have a good command of IT tools and internet so we need something simple such and as it was before this sloppy as novelty and malfunction.

    We too are people with the same rights as everyone.

    @gracieyoung

    Hi there,

    Quite apart from the “pain points” that many long-standing WP users have so eloquently voiced here, there are a number of things that dont actually work.

    I’m not sure that anyone has mentioned that it is no longer possible to edit Photo Galleries. Instaed of the clickable gallery image, the gallery shortcode is displayed (in visuall mode).

  • Unknown's avatar

    I would like to add to this thread several points (they may duplicate things already said, in which case I apologize for the duplication).

    First thing: when I try to post something straight from the “text” version of the new post editor, it will publish the post, but all the stuff done in HTML mode evaporates. I have to switch it to “Visual” before I click “publish” in order to get the post published. This is a serious problem. I had an entire post disappear into cyberspace because of it.

    Second thing: my categories don’t show up anymore in the heirarchical family-types that I’m used to. Instead, since they’re also more spread out, I have to scroll down a LOT of space in order to get the ones I want, and they’re in a totally different order, because they’re not listed in their heirarchical relationships.

    Thirdly, I have to click a LOT more buttons to get anything done to a new post. I prefer to see my options easily accessible. I like a cluttered screen when it comes to editing, because that’s less navigation I have to do while editing.

    Please bring back the old format everywhere. I now know how to get to the old editor thanks to some of the above comments, but I would like the old editor everywhere.

    After the initial “shock” I would like to say to WordPress: this new “cutesy” presentation does not fit in with the cool calm status that somehow befits WordPress – why should I be looking at bubbles with the system cooing “beeps” at me when I just want to write my post without any added nonsense to ” spice” up my WordPress “experience”?

    Apart from that: the editing field is pretty cramped, leaving a sea of unused space to the left and the right, it feels like having dinner at a folding table designed for the camping in a sprawling, totally empty dining room.

    Sorry staff/management, but after using WP for four years to my satisfaction this change leaves me definitely not amused.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Among the many things difficult about the new editor is the absence of the Format selections. I like to change my prior posts to “Gallery” posts after a new post goes up. It used to be easy to do — just click edit, select and update. Now I’m going to the dashboard, revealing all posts, then selecting edit and etc.
    Also, the tags and categories are cumbersome in the new editor.

    what the bleep is this?
    all we see is beep, beep, boop
    no more bloopers, please

  • Unknown's avatar

    @Quarkone the post formats are in the Advanced Options section.

    We care about your happiness!

    They don’t call us Happiness Engineers for nothing. If you need help, don’t sweat it. We’re here for you!

    OK – no sweat here – I’m quietly confident that WP will admit that this New Editor has no plus points when compared to the Old and will consign it to the bin.

    @gracejiyoung

    Thanks for finally acknowledging this thread.

    I just hope that you and the WP mandarins appreciate and understand WHY there is so much concern and dissent aimed at this new development – the key points being it was launched without formal public notice and is neither practical or applicable for most of your users, especially PC users, by complicating for what is the the most integral and fundamental function in the entire posting process.

    The lack of official response from WP hasn’t helped much as a result our opinions feel ignored when user satisfaction should be your top priority.

    I hope your presence here is the first stage of recognising our frsutrations and our right to be heard and that my cynical “lip service” joke from earlier wasn’t unfortunately prescient.

    I did a test post using the new edit process, and it was not satisfactory. First, it was actually slower from start to finish (publish) than the older version. Secondly, there was no option for the format that I could find. Third, the editing process itself was unsatisfactory because selecting the preview button seemed to be the only way to save the draft test post. I do like to keep track of the word count, and there seems to be no way to do this in the new version. Finally, it really shouldn’t be so complicated to get a ‘clean’ short link.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Most of my blogs are music blogs. Now you cannot post gigya method of YT. I tested it. Again nothing will post under text only visual, which makes it impossible. The work around even when text is on is garbled, with em’s and other mess.

    I am devastated. You have taken any joy of writing & posting blogs here. Please for the love of God, understand to what you have done is destroy our ability to easily post as we have. This new editor is insane, it doesn’t work. Makes everything next to impossible with everything.

    You have ripped out the text portion and that doesn’t make any sense.

    PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. Undo this new disaster.

    @raincoaster – I appreciate all of the help you’re trying to offer, but I do NOT choose to use an offline editor, nor to want to download or install ANY type of additional software or the likes thereof, simply to do what was already functionally available to do on this site upon me joining it, nor should I have to. Problem is not solved – problem still exists, you are advising people to work around a problem, that is not a problem resolved, that is a problem recognized and user’s suffering from.

    @raincoaster
    . I found this workround long ago, but why should we have to do that, nothing wrong with the way it was.

    I noticed a member of staff here, I wonder how long before they say they were wrong with this terrible mistake.
