Before late July, 2014, my blog images came through fine. Now small.

image from my file is not displaying correct size as it did before late June when the WordPress changes were installed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. What probably happened is that the recent updates to the post editor reset your default settings. The next time you insert a new image, make sure you select the size you want before you insert it. Doing this should change your default back to that setting for future images.

You have the option to set the display size of your images when you insert them into posts. You can also change the size of already inserted images by editing the post, clicking on the image and clicking on the pencil icon which appears. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/#insert-an-imagefrom-your-media-library

Thanks for your response. I have had this blog for over 2 years and mostly all has gone well. I have considered the $18 a year upgrade but don’t want to change address; just tend to a few fine points to make blog better. Does the $18 a year do this? Thanks, Brenda

  • The only $18 a year upgrade I know of is the custom domain upgrade which means your address changes from yourblog.wordpress.com to simply yourblog.com, or org, or whatever else. More info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

If you want the ability to customise the appearance of your site over and above what your theme allows, you’ll need the custom design upgrade which is $30 per year per blog. More info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

Thanks for your patience. I’m happy with theme I’ve had for past 2 years and glad to have wordpress.com address. Since June 21st my photos appear small on the blog. I did follow instructions to change the size, but of course they say that photo can only be decreased. Please look at my blog. Yes, I am willing to pay for help. Also, at least from my side of blog, the featured photo, which should show automatically and changes each week when I post, is not there unless you you select the latest post. For some reason, the featured post is two gardening tools, several posts back. Please help. Thank you, Brenda

  • Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I did follow instructions to change the size, but of course they say that photo can only be decreased

That is only if you try to edit the file itself in the library. Edit your post at Posts ->All Posts. Click on an image, click on the pencil icon, and look where it says size. Select medium, large or full size. Don’t click on the button that says Edit Original.

You can also make it bigger by simply clicking on the image and dragging the edges as you would in Word. If you can’t make it bigger it means you uploaded it at that size.

the featured photo, which should show automatically and changes each week when I post, is not there unless you you select the latest post. For some reason, the featured post is two gardening tools, several posts back.

Are you speaking of the slideshow on the home page? Unfortunately it seems your theme is retired so there isn’t a support doc and I can’t upload it to my test blog to help you figure it out, so I’ll tag this for staff to follow up. Please be patient while waiting for their response.

  • Hi there!

For a post to appear in the Featured Post slider, it has be set as a Sticky Post and must have a Featured Image assigned to it. Can you please try this by editing an existing post and see if it works?

As for your other concern, please see if @kokkieh’s suggestions helped. You should see the image size setting under “Attachment Display Settings” in the Add Media screen popup.

Let me know if you run into any hitches along the way. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks to you both. With your guidance and a bit of luck the blog photo appearance in my blog of over two years with WordPress is now going forward as well as before the WordPress administrative changes were made. Of course all bloggers need to be accommodated.
    Thanks again for your help,
    Brenda

  • Glad to hear it worked, Brenda! You’re welcome!
