Beginner help for link to Amazon

  • Unknown's avatar

First time user and for the life of me I can’t figure out linking. Easy for you, please help make it easy for me. I get an affiliate URL from Amazon for the product and I’ve done the insert link but it doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong? How do I insert the highlighted link from Amazon or anywhere else for that matter. This MUST be simple but I am missing something. THANKS. John

if you mean to link to another website from your blog, this is what you do:
in your post, you write “..blablabla click here to see blabla …” then you highlight the words you want to make into a hyperlink, in this example “click here” and then find the LINK-button above the window you’re writing in. Up pops a window, that says “isert link”, and there you paste your url.

For Amazon affiliate links, you need to go to their Link Builder, under Text Links. They will give you the code to use. The normal code linker doesn’t work. Put the link code in using the HTML editor, the code editor, not the Visual editor.

    So it looks like

<BigAmazonCode>Words you want to be the link</a>

    see my amazon selection

That is a link you can put it in the code editor (html not visual, upper right tab), it will not work, but you can replace the address with your own choice.

just trying again, I thought it would show the code.
If this does not then change these brackets to the pointed greater than less than type.
    (a href=”http://www.your address.com”) see my amazon ad(/a)

It won’t show the code unless you put it between backticks, those little marks on the same key as ~.

And Amazon affiliate code has to run through the Amazon generator. It’s got a weird thing of adding an extra space at the end of your link, so you might want to delete a normal space that goes there. You can’t just link to the page on Amazon and expect it to work as an affiliate link.
