Beginner is searching for plug-ins (course management, booking system, etc,)

    Hi guys!

    I am pretty new to WP and just started searching trough this unbelievable large set of available plug-ins. There are so many plug-ins available that it might make sense to shortly describe what I am looking for an to wait for some promising recommendations.

    So, actually, at the end, I will run three sites:

    Site 1
    I am a university lecturer; so I allow my students to download study material which I want to be able to upload easily. Students should then be able to download uploaded material (only the material belonging to the course they attend). Students should also be able to hand-in their assignments etc. Site provides some general information about the course and announcements as well as some free SW downloads.

    So what I need is some system to manage courses, especially to upload (and make available) course material such as presentations and exercises. Students should be able to sign up to courses, to hand-in their assignments, see their grades, discuss and so forth.

    Any plug-in (or set of plug-ins) you would like to recommend?

    Site 2
    My private webseite informing about my research. Very simple; photo gallery etc. might be useful.

    So, I need a good photo gallary plug-in as well as a plug-in that allows me to fetch and sync my publications as listed on ResearchGate or so.

    Site 3
    For my personal business (the company I own); informing about finance topics, option for customers to download forms and questionnaires etc. Will inform via a blog. Polls and questionnaires customers can fill out before we start the consulting session. Discussion forum where customers can ask questions. Customers should be allwed to schedule appointments with me. Statistics that reveal customer’s behavior. Strong SEO support (being ranked properly in Google is esesential). Support for creating and maint. mailing lists customers can subscribe to.

    So besides forum, blog and poll/questionnaires (any recommendation for this?) as well as some upload/download manager (any recommendation for this?), I need a plug-in for appointment management; I should be able to mark slots as free slots in a very flexible way (e.g. Monday 7pm-8pm, Tuesday, 8pm-9pm, Tuesday next week…). Customers should be able to pick a slot to make an appointment.

    You might want to read this about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    You did not give the links to your sites, but if you are in plugin world you should seek help Aton the WordPress.org site. The features you are describing best fits with WordPress installs on your own web host, not the version of WordPress located here at WordPress.com.

    oh, I am sorry; I did not really realize the difference between .org and .com.
    You are absolutely right that I should have asked my question at the .org forum.
