beginner menu trouble

  I’m struggling to understand the basic menu system. I’m using the illustratr theme as I wanted to have a portfolio. I don’t understand the difference between the social menu and the primary menu. I would like to have my portfolio as one of the click-able titles in the primary menu and then be able to see my projects under that tab but haven’t worked out how to do that.
