Beginner needs help unpacking Domain name Mapping Process

  I need general assistance with mapping my registered Go Daddy domain to WordPress. Questions I have include:

  1) Is WordPress just the host site for a URL? Or is it also a registrar site? How does this work?
  2) How much is the transfer fee if I wanted to house everything here (transferring from Go Daddy to WordPress)?
  3) Unpack the $17 versus $12 fee for mapping.

  We work with a partner registrar to register new domains, but we can’t accept incoming domain transfers at this time.

  If you’ve already registered a domain name, you’ll need to keep it registered elsewhere, and using the mapping upgrade to point it to your WordPress.com blog.
