Beginner support for Neda

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I built my first free blog at wordpress (https://onlinevoicetrain.wordpress.com/). Since I want to teach online music lessons, and need to spread a word and advertise it worldwide, I was wandering what plan to choose. I do not have a clue about domain and hosting, so I would like to know if I take everything at wordpress, can I have for instance web name http://www.onlinevoicetrain.com? I would need to upload some teaching videos as small intro to my lessons in the future. At the moment I would keep it basic, since I would like to administer web by myself if that does not require any programming – is that possible? Can domain and hosting be transferred to another company, and at what cost (at my homecountry for instance? ) What are advantages and disadvantages of this transfer? Why should I choose wordpress? Can I have 24h online support here? And to make the point, as a total beginner it is essential for me to have as much as possible userfriendly surrounding to develop my technical skills, in order to support onlinevoicetrain smoothly. Does wordpress have this kind of platform? Thank you very much for your patience and understanding for the beginner! Cheers!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello!

I’ll try to answer your questions separately to make it clearer, ok? :)

-> I would like to know if I take everything at wordpress, can I have for instance web name http://www.onlinevoicetrain.com?

Yes, you can have this address using wordpress, but it requires you to activate a paid plan to your website, since it’s a paid upgrade. You can learn more about the paid plans here (https://wordpress.com/pricing/). To know more about domains, you can read some extra info here -> https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

->At the moment I would keep it basic, since I would like to administer web by myself if that does not require any programming – is that possible?

Yes, it is. When you acquire a paid plan, there are some options that allow you to customize the theme/layout of your website by yourself, but it’s not mandatory. You can still control things from a friendly interface that won’t require any knowledge about programming from you.

-> Can domain and hosting be transferred to another company, and at what cost (at my homecountry for instance? ) What are advantages and disadvantages of this transfer?

When you choose to work with wordpress.com, your blog will be hosted on wordpress.com servers, so you don’t need to pay another company for hosting your website. You can read more about this on this two links:

    1- https://en.support.wordpress.com/do-i-need-to-self-host/view-all/
    2- https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you want to self host, then maybe you should use wordpress.org, but it’s all up to you.

-> Why should I choose wordpress? Can I have 24h online support here?

I think wordpress is great to both beginners and advanced users. It provides numerous tools so you can best work on your blog/site in a great interface :) there is 24h online support here. You can either come here and ask away at the forums (where volunteers -like me- and staff members will answer your questions) or, if you have a paid plan, reach the staff directly at any time.

-> And to make the point, as a total beginner it is essential for me to have as much as possible userfriendly surrounding to develop my technical skills, in order to support onlinevoicetrain smoothly. Does wordpress have this kind of platform?

Yes, wordpress.com platform is made to be friendly. As I told before, you don’t even need to know how to code if you don’t want to. But if you have any questions eventually, you can come to the forums or search here -> https://en.support.wordpress.com/. They have A LOT of information about their product and many instructions that can solve so many doubts.

Hope I could help you. If you still have any doubt, you can add the tag ‘modlook’ to the tags bar to get direct attention from a staff member to this topic :)
