Beginner – Various questions – Illustratr
-
Hi there!
I’m just starting to set up my website and love the Illustratr theme but as a beginner have various CSS questions:
1) Can I change the page background colour from white to a light grey? (I pasted some code from a previous thread as an experiment but this didn’t work – perhaps I didn’t type the code in the right place?? – the code i used was:
#page {
background: #FFFFFF;
}I typed it in the CSS Revisions box… but the background is still white.
2) In the Illustratr demo the menu title is underlined when you’re on that page but where’s the underline gone on my menu items to show which page you’re on?
3) Can I move my tagline (recruitment) up slightly closer to site title (lantern)?
4) Infact can I move all the spacing up a bit so you can see the colour square job posts without having to scroll down?
5) When hovering on a post in the Job Board, it currently goes grey with a ‘+’ symbol (I got this help from LiveChat support), is it possible to change from grey to another colour? And can the ‘+’ sign be changed to text, like ‘more info’.
6) When clicking on a square box in the Job Board, can the box disappear and just show the text that I’ve put in the more tag? Or if not can the box be centred on the page?
Thank you so much for any help here!

I found that the site you entered when you created your help request http://lanternrecruitment.com/ is currently using the Divi theme from http://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/divi/ and it is a WordPress site, but it is not setup here at WordPress.com. Our CSS forum is specifically for WordPress.com users, so future questions for http://lanternrecruitment.com/ should be asked in the WordPress.org forums at http://wordpress.org/support/ or you may also ask the theme author directly to see if they will take the time to help.
Or if you were still looking for help with Illustratr and you have a WordPress.com setup, please reply back here and include a link to the blog you’re working on.

Hi!
I am also a newbie to CSS. I am using Illustratr as a theme. Love it, but I want to change the portfolio thumbnails on the home page to direct to “category” page posts, instead of a portfolio page.
I found an old thread on how to do this by linking the “featured” image to the URL of the category page of my choosing. But, I am not seeing this option when I click on “featured image”.
Ultimately, I want the layout of the portfolio page, but I want the text and image to link to a “category page” once clicked on, bypassing the portfolio page.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome!!

I’m so sorry but this is something that cannot be done with CSS only. CSS can change the appearance of things already on the page—it cannot be used to change HTML or other functionality such as links generated by the theme.
However! Even though linking directly to categories is not an option for the portfolio layout, I’m trying to think of other workarounds that will help you. Here’s one idea!
Use the portfolio pages, and then add a [display-posts] shortcode with the category you want to show on each one. Here is a guide about the shortcode if that sounds like something you want to try:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/I think you should try it out. I bet it will work out well for what you’re trying to do.
