Beginner’s question

I started playing with menu and pages. I created a new template, downloaded (or uploaded?) some photos and added some text and quotes. I thought I saved all my work but this morning none of it was there. I tried to access past drafts but didn’t find what I was looking for. Any chance you could help me figure out what I did wrong? I thought I was saving every few minutes after I made a new change. Thank you – I also want to prevent this from happening again.
