Beginning a website

  I went to the WordPress website, to start learning how to design the website. But after filling out my contact details, I was being asked to pay immediately. I want to know if there is the way that I can practice filling out the contents and designing the website come to see if I’m capable of doing it, before I make financial commitment.
  I’m very much beginner, so I want to see if I can do this. Is this possible?
