Beginning CSS Without Any Upgrades?

  • Unknown's avatar

In order to customize a theme, do I need to purchase some kind of upgrade, or can I just do it without any upgrade, once I’ve gotten a basic wordpress.com blog up and going?

Are there more options if some kind of upgrade is purchased? If so, is there a list of the extra features or options somewhere?

Is there anyone who can point me to step one here?

I’m new at this, but I would like to start making some basic modifications to my blogs with CSS, and learn more about CSS by doing and experimenting. I just need to get to the point where I can start playing with the code, testing and seeing what happens….

But I simply don’t know how to take the very first few steps to get started.

You can check out http://csswiz.wordpress.com for tips on what you can do for free, but for more than that you will have to purchase the CSS upgrade, which is per blog, not per account. You probably should go through the resources recommended in the CSS forum before even thinking of purchasing the upgrade.

You can find details of the upgrade in the Support files: http://support.wordpress.com/ ALWAYS a good idea to search there.

You’re welcome. We find a lot of people purchase the upgrade and then expect help with the most basic changes, or complain “I pasted in some CSS I found somewhere and it doesn’t work.” Well, no, it doesn’t. It’s more like translating a book than copy/pasting one. It’s not hard to learn, but it does take some elbow grease.
