Beginning with WordPress.com…now interested in WordPress.org

    Hey team,
I recently began my blog with a premium upgrade of WordPress.com and have been nothing but pleased with it. Now that I have the main gist of handling a blog, I’m interested in PLUG-INS.
But I believe I would only have the option of using the Plug-ins feature if I had begun with WordPress.org
If I download wordpress on my Google Chromebook, would I be able to transfer my existing blog into a full featured site with all of the bells and whistle of managing my own site through wordpress.org? Are there fees involved? And also, is there any where you could point me to see what the pros and cons of wordpress.org and wordpress.com are?

You have all been more than helpful so far! Thanks for the advice,
    Laura

Hiya Laura, I think this will be a good place to start learning about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If you choose to make the leap into self-hosting, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

Let me know if you have any questions at all. Best of luck!

Thanks for your advice. But now I’m so confused I’m almost in tears.
I signed up for Bluehost and was ready to go with a WordPress.org blog.
It worked, and I got a temp URL that logged me right in to the dashboard for WordPress.org.
Then, I got impatient, and changed the URL from the temporary one Bluehost set me up with when I downloaded WordPress and changed it to the OLD URL that I had with WordPress.com. I registered Blue Host with the domain purchased through WordPress.com, and it worked fine.
    Here’s my dilemma now:
When I log in to wordpress, I now have 2 blogs – the original, and the WordPress.org one that was newly created.
When I choose the new wordpress.org, it automatically takes me to the wordpress.com dashboard because I changed the URL’s and I can’t modify it now! What should I do? I am so frustrated at this point :(
Any advice you can give would be awesome. Thanks so very much!!!
