Behaviour modification of the Publish button – OK to Publish?

The Publish button does not allow any escape if you hit it by mistake.
Regardless of Role assignment, I would like to see its behaviour modified to ask something like, “Do you really want to Publish now?”

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re not the first person to request this, but it isn’t going to happen. For every request for this I’ve seen, I am quite sure they’d get a thousand complaints if it were to happen.

I understand your point, raincoaster, but could it be controlled by a user option setting?

You could publish your post as private as soon as you give it a title. Then as you revise, revise, revise, your option is to update, update, update. The post will remain private: no emails sent out to subscribers before you are ready. Switch to “public.”

In our workflow, I create a Draft and Gary decides when it should be published. If you are proposing that I go straight to Publish but as Private, how would this affect what Gary does?

My suggestion of having the Publish ask if it’s OK would only happen if the account holder opted to have that behaviour – otherwise the default option would render this feature transparent.

In that situation, then you could publish as private so no one would see it if you forget which button to just update your draft, then Gary would make the post “public” when it’s ready to go “live.”

If Gary doesn’t want you to publish before he approves then perhaps you should be a contributor.

I’ll admit to being one of the wp.com bloggers with several sites who would not appreciate more clicks to publish a blog.

    Hi 1tess,
In my proposal of how Publish would be enhanced, you can continue to enjoy single click behaviour. Confirmation click would prevail only if the blog owner elects to set this feature ON and this would be done in as an account option. Does that make this idea a little more feasible?

Confirm Publish = On/Off in Writing Settings.

    Hello 1tess
Did you get my last suggestion as to how this can work to everyone’s satisfaction?

Confirm Publish = On/Off in Writing Settings.
