Best action to take on Spam comment?

    aloha – i got my first spam comment. i’m in the edit comments area. the name, url(s), email all look clearly bogus to me. there is a clear IP number.

    1 – should i keep track of the IP number some place?

    2 – the best way to deal with this spam is….
    a. click the “Empty Spam” button
    b. click the “Delete Permanently” button
    c. something else and i should also do or notify… ???

    1 no, don’t bother.

    2: if it’s in Spam, you don’t need to do anything; it will automatically be deleted after a certain number of days. Akismet automatically tracks what spam you get and uses it to learn, so you don’t need to notify anyone.

    great. and thank you raincoaster. so by leaving it there Akismet learns by tracking the ip number, if i’m understanding that right. exactly what i wanted to know. mahalo (thanks) again.

    No, IP numbers are nearly irrelevant nowadays. Spammers in particular change their IPs constantly. Akismet notes the IP, but it also notes the email, the name and the actual content of the comment.

    Not necessarily the ip number, but it works with some more sophisticated cues.

    You might check your spam cue occasionally to be sure that legitimate comments are not mis-marked as spam: it happens sometimes…

    mahalo again raincoaster. another bit i didnt know but is a great piece of the puzzle. i’m impressed with Akismet. …it seems the line between human intelligence and artificial intelligence is constantly blurring… getting closer and closer to where the two may cross some day…

    per… or should that be purrrfect 1tess – okay. may be not perfect but wow – okay… way beyond me cool. yes, i do monitor the spam cue/box(s) etc. in most of my activities. once in a while… as you say, once in a while something slips in… okay, cool on that. for the most part – wow the online world is amazing and is getting better and better all the time.

    …and as a personal aside… when the determent is sufficient that it’s not worth the risk… may be people who do this #@%F& stuff will get the idea. bwahahahahaha. …okay, okay… ..i can fantasize… hahaha…
