Best way to remove “wordpress” from my website?

Hi staff, I don’t do much updating or need any special features or really want to spend much, but what do I need to do to remove the “wordpress” from my URL website name?

I would assume that takes an upgrade. If so, will this change my whole website and I will need to start from scratch?

Will this remove me from google search results?

Will it create bad links for every link I have pasted somewhere?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do I have an option to also change the name to SpitfirePickguards.com instead of SpitfireTortoiseshellPickguards.com?

  • Hi! Yes, in order to remove the ‘wordpress’ from your site address, you’ll want a paid plan and custom domain. All of our plans do come with one free domain registration; and you could definitely register spitfirepickguards.com as it doesn’t appear to be registered at this time.

In terms of plan level if you’re not intending to make changes to the site appearance, I’d likely suggest the Personal plan:

Addng a plan won’t change the appearance of your site! All it does is let you set a custom domain as the primary address, adds some more storage space, and a few other features.

Typically when you set a custom domain as the primary address, your http://spitfiretortoiseshellpickguards.wordpress.com/ links should redirect to the equivalent with custom domain you choose.

However a change of address can at least temporarily affect how you appear in search results; this is somewhat inevitable and to try to mitigate that, Google actually have a ‘Change of address’ tool that you might be interested in:

I hope that helps, if you do have any other questions let us know!
