Best way to save blog content
-
Hi there,
for the past two years I’ve been running a wordpress blog at http://photojournalismlinks.com which has turned out to be popular (nearly 20,000 hits a month). I have quite an amount of content within the posts and pages, content which I’ve spent hundreds of hours – if not thousands – compiling, and I’m a bit worried that I might one day lose some of it due to some bug.
What I’d like to know is , what would you recommend as the best way to back up my content? If I copy the HTML code of each post and page for example to a Word file on my laptop, could I later use the code to create a post or a page exactly similar to where the code was originally copied from?
Please note, I am pretty poor with computers.
Thanks.
Mikko

From the tools menu I would think export is the easiest way to back up your content. I too would like to know if that is the optimal way.

There are many ways but do keep in mind these facts: (1) the best time to begin backing up your content is the moment you begin writing a post, and (2) wordpress.com does have backups of your blogs. Here are some options. I recommend using an offline blog editor to compose posts. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2007/10/27/disaster-planning-backups-for-bloggers/

Yes it does work well but it does not include links and if you are wise you will use RSS feeds for backing up comments. However, if you use “the more” tag to split content do be aware that all you will get is excerpts.

Ah. I use the more tag in some posts otherwise readers of my blog are forced to scroll through long articles they may not be interested in reading and other articles get forced off my front page before they are read.

@mikkoatakkunen
As yours is a photoblog you may want to consider using a free image host to establish a backup copy of your images as well. -
@mikkoatakkunen: And yes, if you copy-paste the complete content from the html editor into a text file, then copy-paste from the text file into the html editor you get an identical post – provided images will still be stored where they originally were. (There may be some other complications if you paste the html to a blog with a different theme, but I don’t suppose you’re interested in that.)
