Better to use Flickr or WordPress for photos?
-
I am planning a trip out of the country in a few days, and want to keep a blog that includes both text and photos from this trip. I have friends and relatives who are not very tech-savvy, and I want them to be able to easily navigate to view my photos and blog posts. I’m not sure if it would be better to have a Flickr account and link it to my blog, or to host my photos in my blog. I’d like a solution that is both fast and easy for me to maintain (as I will be busy), and easy for friends and relatives to see, although I am willing to accept a solution that requires a little more work on my part to make it easy for others. It seems like the Flickr option would be the easiest for me, but I’m not sure about usability. Does anyone have experience with both these options to tell me which would be best? Or any other suggestions that have worked well for you in the past? I’d really appreciate any advice I can get on this matter.

Stephanie, I use Flickr for most of my images and love it. If you’re comfortable with it and like how your photos appear on your blog, go for it. What I do is to copy and paste into my WordPress blog, rather than use a thumbnail or an image that links back to Flickr. You may want to do something different. I say do what is easiest for yourself, as you’re the one traveling; as long as the photos show up, your readers will find them.
You can also use the static Flickr widget in your sidebar, and show as many recent photos as you like that way. They will, of course, link back to your Flickr page. This too can be a great option. Bon Voyage!

flickr also has an email to blog feature. You have to link your WordPress.COM blog in your flickr account to use it.
