Beware Miersimo

You might want to warn other WordPress bloggers to beware of this “Mersimo” outfit that encourages us to link in and enable reader contributions. It’s designed for WordPress only, and it’s like the cockroach hotel: you can check in, but can’t check out. There seems no way to disconnect the link and while I received a few responses from them when I initially requested to terminate, they’ve gone radio silent since. Very annoying, because I’m forced to remove their button manually from each post.

    Hi there,

Thank you for reporting this to us. You are always in control of the services and applications that are connected to your WordPress.com account, and you can remove them at any time from your My Apps settings page here:

    https://wordpress.com/?ssl=forced#!/settings/my-apps/

If you would like, I can help you remove the Mersimo service from your account. Please just let me know and I will take care of it for you.

Our team is reviewing the Mersimo service now, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention!

Thanks – that’s what I was looking for but couldn’t find. In fairness to Mersimo, they seem well intentioned and I like the idea of getting paid for writing, but it was frustrating to deal with them once I decided I didn’t like the appearance of their donation button.

If you would like, you can add a PayPal donation button to your blog yourself: PayPal

You can use the official PayPal donate buttons or use your own image to customize the look of the donation button. Visitors to your site can then donate to you directly via PayPal. If you are interesting in the idea of collecting donations on your blog, perhaps this approach will work for you!
