Big increase in pageviews, but not in post views
-
The past few hours my total for pageviews has increased by maybe 700 or so. That’s not particularly remarkable, except that the figures for views of specific posts haven’t changed at all. If one or two posts were attracting hundreds of views, the stats would normally reflect that. Nor is there any increase in referrers or search engine terms. Those figures haven’t changed for hours. Further, I haven’t had any comments for several hours, and that’s unusual for the traffic I appear to be getting. So I don’t know what’s going on. Either the total pageviews has gone wildly crazy, or all the other stats have somehow become frozen. Comments too. Does anyone have any information on this?

have you just gotten approved on some blog ranking site or something like BlogCatalog or MyBlogLog? What do your search items show? Google has made some recent changes, maybe they’ve started referring more ppl to your blog.
-
No. Good thought, however. I submitted the blog to the DMOZ directory back in February, but I just checked and there’s been no action there. I can’t think of anything to account for “empty” pageviews. At least they should be reflected in hits to the most recent post.

Referral sources and search engine terms are essentially normal, and haven’t changed to reflect the recent increase in pageviews. In the past, if I get a load of hits from some site that links to me, I’ll always know it. Nothing like that is going on according to the stats. Could it be from a “no follow” link to my site? I’m not sure what that would look like, but it ought to show up as a view to the post. It’s all a mystery. But I’ve just received a few comments, so at least that’s functioning.

Ah. I wonder if you’ve been moved from being screened out by Safesearch to being approved? That will vastly increase everything, including hits on your main blog page.

Your name didn’t used to link to your blog, a hint you were “adulted” on WP. Now it links. That means your’e in the global tag pages, and that hugely boosts your SEO.
-
I don’t think that’s it. My blog has never had “adult” material. And I really don’t use tags, so that’s not it. Google has always treated me well. Sometimes I’ve been on the first page of stuff that gets hundreds of thousands of search hits. And I think my name was always linked to the blog. I doubt that any of those are factors here. It’s possible that I’m oblivious to problems that existed in the past, but I don’t think there were any.

I’ll wait to see if things get adjusted tomorrow, and if not, I’ll see if the same situation continues. Then I’ll probably ask staff. Otherwise, I’ll just live with it as a one-time anomaly.
