  Hi! I’m setting up a website for a friend’s company. I’d like to go for the Personal package instead of the free website, however, I need the charge billed to his company rather than my credit card. How can I do that?

  Open a new WordPress.com account for your friend, using her email address and other details. Use that account and her card details for the purchase.

  Hello!

  If you haven’t already signed up for the package you were referring to where you signed up with their info instead of yours [as mentioned by akumarjain] it’s also a possibility for you to do the initial sign up on your end if you were wanting to get them started and then do future payments through them.

  Billing/card info can be edited through Billing History [Edit Payment Method] which is more described here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

  And then you can switch account details through Account Settings: https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-settings/

  However, this would mean signing up with your own information first for the first cycle and switching later. Just wanted to provide that as an option if you are/were unable to get their billing credentials to sign up.

  Hope you don’t mind me jumping in here. In this case, I agree with @akumarjain’s approach to set up a separate account to register and set up the site.

  One important factor which wasn’t mentioned is that the account which registers the site here on WordPressdotcom owns the site and that can have future ramifications.

  Once you have the company sign up with their own account (with an email address they will always have access to) you can either use their log-in information to build the site for them or be added as an Admin to the site. You will not be able to downgrade their user role as Admin/Site Owner. https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

  If you’ve already registered their site under your account, once they have set up and confirmed their own account, you can transfer ownership of the site to the company’s account by following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

  I missed a sentence under “If you’ve already registered their site under your account.” After you transfer ownership of the site to their account, you won’t have access to their site. You’ll need to be added back as Admin.
