Billing

In my cart was a billing charge to renew my premium theme which supposedly expires today.
I didn’t know that themes were subscription based. I thought the purchase of a theme allowed me to use that theme forever.
In any case, I didn’t add the Premium Theme Designer to my cart.

themagicrobot, that’s part of my confusion. The $39.00 charge is for the Premium Theme Designer, but in the checkout portion of the cart it says “Lenscap recently renewed and will expire on January 2, 2019.”
My understanding is that once you purchase a theme you can use it forever, or until the theme is retired. I just discovered that the theme, Lenscap, has been retired.
However, I should be able to use it until I delete it according to the WP help index.
In any case, I did not place an order in my cart for the Premium Theme Designer.

Hi there,
Premium themes never expire and as you can see from your Billing History, you purchased the Lenscap theme on June 29, 2018:

No other purchase have been made since to your account and we don’t have a theme named Designer. Is there any chance that you’re referring to the Premium plan?

fstat, as I said, the order in my cart was for the Premium Theme Designer. On the checkout portion of the cart it said, “Lenscap recently renewed and will expire on January 2, 2019.”
I didn’t order the Premium Theme Designer and deleted it from the cart.
The Lenscap theme has been retired, and I think what happened is that this was a marketing scheme by WordPress to sell me an upgrade.
How could Lenscap be recently renewed and retired at the same time?
For whatever reason, WP does retire themes. I can still use Lenscap, but if I switch to another theme I won’t be able to switch back.
I don’t appreciate that WP arbitrarily added an upgrade to my cart. An upgrade is not necessary to continue using the Lenscap theme which supposedly expired yesterday.
Very deceptive marketing.

We don’t automatically add upgrades to a cart, and we don’t have a live product by that name either. If you see that again, would you mind getting a screenshot so we can figure out where it’s coming from?

Noting I did some digging and found we did once have a theme called Designer. It’s retired as well, so it definitely would not make sense for us to add it to your cart for you.
Again if you can send more info, we’ll work to get to the bottom of this for you. Thanks in advance.

supernovia, I do have screenshots.
The Designer theme seems to be a specialty portfolio theme.
-
supernovia, please disregard the storage limit screenshot (second of three). It was sent by mistake.

Thank you for those screenshots. I have already notified our Payments team and I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from them.
