Billing and domain mapping for research center website

  I’m trying to set up a new website for an academic research center, and I have two questions: 1) we don’t have a way to pay with a credit card, can we set up the billing to have an invoice sent to us? 2) Can I build the site and then map the domain name to our .edu name? I want to start working on a wordpress site but keep our old site (which has the domain name that I want our wordpress site to eventuall have) up until the wordpress site is finished

  Hi @mallorypickett – The accepted Payment Methods for WordPress.com are found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/
  You could use PayPal, but WordPress.com is not able to send an invoice.

  In order to map the domain, you would need to have access to change the name servers to point here to WordPress.com.

  Hi Liz. Thanks so much for your response!

  But my question about the domain is whether I can build the site using a wordpress.com domain and then change the domain servers.

  The domain we want to have is already in use for our old site, so we don’t want to map the domain name to our WordPress site until it’s already built. Can we do that?

  You can build the site with WordPress.com and then purchase Domain Mapping when you are ready to switch it over.
