Bitacle?

I haven’t had a chance to send a message. Been too busy. But I’m really pissed that they are doing this. I hope that podz can get them banned from here.

How exactly does one find out it these crooks have ripped off your blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I see them in my Feed Stats every day. That should be a tipoff.

  • Unknown's avatar

Showing up in my server logs as well.

    Response from Bitacle:

    Atentamente bitacle

    Very bad automatic English translation:

Bitacle is a reader of rss, atom via Web. As it can be for electronic mail via hotmail Web, gmail, etc. They exist the market multitude of readers or by Web or through the operating system that you use. The license is only applied to our site for our programming, but the content of the information and the license that you apply you are hers. You must control the contents that she provides to a reader of blogs and the traffic that receives from them, nobody forces to him to syndicate contents. Kindly bitacle

    Follow up by me:

Excuse me but your license does not state that the programming is under CC. It states that all of the information on your site is under a CC license and it is not.

You are not giving credit to the original owner of the content not are you stating that it written by other folks. You are presenting it as your own and offering for use by others without the permission of the original creator.

And you offer not way to remove content that the original owner does not want on your site.

I think you need to study up on copyright as it appears you know nothing about it.

email address is bitacle ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com if you want to follow up.

    @drmike
I will send an email and I hope others will deluge them with email too. However, IMO an email battle these people will be futile. So I want to put plan B in motion now – I want them off my feed – I want their IP blocked. So do you recommend that I send in a feedback and request this or have you already brought this to the attention of sysadmin?

P.S. Why is this thread marked “resolved”. How will it come to the attention of sysadmin with this label on it?

  • Unknown's avatar

I hven’t translated their response that thye just sent me but in includes links to other folks RSS feeds so I’m guessing what they sent back to me was a “You publish RSS which means anyone can do what they want with it.” response.

Off to go help out. (I’m late) Back in a few hours.

Matt, I noticed that you digg‘ed the article over at digg.com.

I hate to be a pain and I think I know how you feel about free information and not blocking IP addresses and all that but, just to make TT happy, I’d love to hear a response. :)

    @Matt
Yes, please do respond and thank you, in advance, for doing so. I clearly understand the wordpress.com policy with regard to blocking IP’s in ordinary situations. However, a whole organization built on ripping-off blog content for the purpose of profiteering stabs into to the very heart of blogging and I respectfully submit that extraordinary situations do require extraordinary measures.

  • Unknown's avatar

a whole organization built on ripping-off blog content

And feeling that they are free to do so and legally in the right annoys me as well.

I’m wondering if Robert Scoble or Om Malik or any of the most “notable” wordpress bloggers have been site scraped and had their content pimped for google ad profits by these feed sucking bitacle low lives.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Big time

Noindex and nofollow ugc added to that link so that they don’t get credit for it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Great leaping lizards! 734 links scobelizer – is Robert aware of this?
Please take that “resolved” thingee off this thread – this issue isn’t resolved it has yet to even hit the flipping fan.

“…about free information and not blocking IP addresses…”

Uh, newbie in ignorance here. HOW does admin view blocking IPs? I get the jist of this thread, but not the specifics.

-How does one check if blog is being raided for monetary value?
-How to prevent/stop? (–short words/simple English, please, newbie remember.)
(PS Moving the picture boxes to flush left: Kewl, less eyeball action.)

  • Unknown's avatar

We don’t have the power to block bitacle accessing our sites, it’s up to Automattic to change some settings on the servers to stop them getting through.

In the meantime, you can try blocking search engines under the ‘Options/Privacy’ tab, but it’s doubtful whether sploggers will respect this option and it excludes you from legitimate engines like Google and Yahoo!. You could also try switching your feed from full text to summary under ‘Options/Reading’, giving them less to steal :)

  • Unknown's avatar

As the originator of this thread, I marked it resolved. My original question was answered.

As for whether or not IP addresses can be blocked, that is a different question. I’ll change the thread back to unresolved and send feedback with a link to this thread. Perhaps the staff will reconsider the blocking of IP addresses.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ll find out what IP addresses they are using.

If they are using a single IP address then the option to block that appears. But the problem is that genuine wp.com users might also be using that IP and we would cut off access for them.

The whois is of litle use as he has it all:
    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=bitacle.org&cache=off

    IP says he’s in Spain:
    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=213.201.119.163

And it looks like these people provide his hosting:
    http://www.ono.es/default.asp?o=04&p=03&s=04

There’s an email address on that page….

I did drop Scoble a line, in case anyone’s wondering. He’s sparred with such people before.

  • Unknown's avatar

And to compound the fun, here is http://stopbitacleorg.wordpress.com/ – with some interesting links to bitacle information and responses.

  • Unknown's avatar

I left Scoble a comment as well on the last thread where he discussed the issue. I’m sure he reads them as he has his comments on moderation.

Podz, the 213.* number appears to be for their webserver. The 212.* appears to be where their spider is coming from, a cable modem out of Spain.

I unmarked it as Resolved since we’ve continued to discuss it.
