Bizarre jumps changes to link embedding
-
Problem: When I create/edit a blog post and change font colours add URLs or the like, WordPress jumps to the top of the post instead of staying at the very spot where I was currently editing, which is very annoying.

I am afraid this has not been resolved unlike suggested by rachelmcr.
In addition, I found the latest (unwelcome) change to composing entries is that one can no longer add a different text to embedded links, which in the past, readers would see when they hovered over the links. Now, when one adds that text the actual text in the post changes to that. What, if anything, is the improvement in that? Those hovering text boxes allowed readers to see what the links were to and to decide whether or not they want to click on them. The change is, in my view, not at all useful.

Hi there,
Problem: When I create/edit a blog post and change font colours add URLs or the like, WordPress jumps to the top of the post instead of staying at the very spot where I was currently editing, which is very annoying.
When you reported this issue before, you mentioned that you were using Firefox. Can you please check to see what version of Firefox you’re currently having this trouble with? I checked in Firefox 39.0.3 and the problem is still resolved for me there.
Also, do you have any add-ons installed in Firefox?
In addition, I found the latest (unwelcome) change to composing entries is that one can no longer add a different text to embedded links, which in the past, readers would see when they hovered over the links.
That link title field was removed from the open source WordPress software that’s used at WordPress.com. When the open source software is changed, WordPress.com automatically gets those changes.
You can read the full discussion on why this was removed from WordPress here: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/32095
If you’d like a workaround to add a title to your link, I’d recommend using the HTML code recommend in this forum post:

Thanks for your reply.
With regards to the ‘Title’ field, I can’t quite believe the reason… but I always believe it’s pointless to complain about a service provided free of charge. If people confused the ‘Title’ field with the link field too often, I am sure there would have been other ways to highlight to users which is which. Thanks, though, for the work-around, although it’s quite bothersome having to get into the HTML each time. How about a user poll about the issue? I certainly do not seem to have been the only one being unhappy about this change.
I got 39.0.3, too, and at first glace, the addons that could interfere could be
Classic Theme Restorer
IE Tab 2 (not using it for WordPress, though)
AdBlock PlusI got others (creating PDFs, screenshots, DownloadHelper etc.) but can’t see how they would interfere.
-
Thanks for those details about your browser. Can you please try disabling those add-ons temporarily, to see if the problem persists? Since it’s not a problem in Firefox on my end (with no add-ons installed) I’d like to make sure those aren’t interfering.

I just disabled every addon ever installed and did a simple edit of an existing blog post to do a test. I opened the editor and selected a few words, then changed the font colour to red – and the jump occurred. You can view a simple video of it here: http://youtu.be/26xdjHicSsE
(I’m not a CamStudio expert, but it should do.)

Thank you for sharing that video! It looks like this issue may only happen under certain circumstances, such as when there’s an image in the post you are editing. (I’m able to reproduce the problem in that case.) I’ve reported this to our team so they can continue investigating the issue, and I’ll let you know if I get an update about that. :)
-
By the way, if you don’t mind leaving that video up on YouTube, it will help our developers understand the issue as they investigate it further. :)
