Bizzare editor malfunctions since yesterday in IE8

  Hi WP,

  Very weird stuff is happening that makes it impossible to write in IE8:

  1. Visual editor will not appear unless I click on ‘Visual’ tab beside ‘HTML’ tab.
  2. The ‘Toggle Full Screen’ option is no longer working. Nothing happens when I click on it.
  3. There is a second Toggle Full Screen icon that changes to a second ‘infinity symbol when I hover on it. When I hover over the main infinity symbol it changes to the ‘Centre Text’ symbol.
  Other icons are changing as well.
  4. Cannot insert hyperlink because the icon is greyed out and doesn’t do anything when I click on it, but when I hover on it, it says it’s the Undo option. Yesterday, it was actually functioning as an undo button when I tried to insert a link.

  Problem started yesterday afternoon shortly after posting a story.

  I’m using IE8. Everything OK in Firefox.

  5. When I click on Support Forums option in the Help tab at the upper right of the dashboard it takes me to the WordPress.org support site, not WP.com.

  Hi, thks for quick reply and suggestions.

  1. I’ve cleared cache and cookies, but still have same problems w/editor in IE8. Forgot to mention that not only is the editor not visible, the text inside the post is not visible either until I click on the Visual Editor tab. Then they appear.
  2. Checked personal settings; the Disable Visual Editor option is not checked.
  3. I am and always have been the Administrator. Have same problem in my other blogs.

  Are you running any add-ons with IE? If so, would you mind checking with those disabled?

  More weirdness, but in a good way. Every one of my blogs w/Google Gears had the same issues, so I went through them one by one and disabled GG which corrected the problems right away and they stayed corrected even after I re-activated GG. (I closed down all IE8 windows and relogged into WP in order to retest each one). Thks so much for the suggestion. Thks to both of you for the help and staying on top of this. Much appreciated.
