“Black” Avatar Box
-
I’ve tried all day today to upload an image for ‘my picture’ and have the dreaded black box that I’ve read about.
I saved the image on my computer and tried to upload using WP. When I click upload and come to the Crop Image page, the image can’t be cropped. I click on Crop Image and WP says “You’re Done!” and displays the black box.
I don’t see what I’m doing wrong, if anything. Could it be WP being finicky? Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks.

Any chance we could have a link to the image in question please? A bunch of things come to mind but without seeing the image, there’s not a whole lot I can suggest. (Top of my list is file corruption when you crop it)

There’s no link in question here.
I saved it to my desktop and uploaded it with WP.
Wouldn’t that take the link out of the equation?
This is the image’s URL anyway, if it helps: http://img1.jurko.net/avatar_2326.gifProblem with a gif image, maybe?
I’ll be checking back.
btw- the ‘cropping’ feature doesn’t seem to be working…Thanks, drmike

I’m getting a “Cropper is undefined” error when I try it in IE.
(I had already tried Firefox, my browser of choice, and gotten the AvBBOD – Avatar Black Box of Death.)
-
I’d be happy if I got any kind of message on that page.
I’m using Firefox as well.
And the AvBBOD remains a mystery… -
@badsneaker – the url you provided is to an animated gif – animated is a “no go”. Try uploading another image that isn’t animated. If that new alternate image doesn’t upload then send in a feedback.
@victoriagothd – are you by chance trying to upload an animated gif or a risque image? No offence intended it’s just something to consider is all. Is your image stored on your computer or elsewhere? Have you tried to upload an alternate image? If you’ve tried an alternate image upload without success then send in a feedback.

Bingo. Thanks!
(I will note that the cropping bounding box started off slightly too big on the right and on the bottom in Firefox, but then it “jumped” into place when I clicked on it to use it.)

Hi, I don’t know, but the black box’ problem is not fixed for me… All this morning I’ve tried to upload my avatar, but it doesn’t work. This is the same problem with the crop box – it doesn’t appear. I browse to My Computer, then I select the image and upload it, but then appears that text: “Choose the part of the image you want to use as your avatar”. OK, but there is not crop box, I can’t select any part of the image! And now I’m black :( Any help?

I’ve sent feedback with the specific steps I followed and the results. I’ve tried it in FF (2.0) and in IE (6.0). I get errors in IE. I’ve tried it with a JPG and a GIF of just a white square. I’ve tried 48×48 and 40×40 images. It’s not the image as far as I can tell (and it would be splendid if the upload page would actually tell us the rules for images).
Thanks to the WP for helping us out with this. I’d really like to get rid of the black square, at the very least.
(updated) Sorry, should have looked for or started an unresolved thread.
