Black draft screen
-
I have two wordpress sites, but the one I’m currently using to write this post has a problem whenever I try to write a new post (in draft mode). The screen is very dark, almost black, so it’s nearly impossible to see the text when I write. Please let me know how to fix this. It’s not occurring on my other wordpress site.
Thank you.

I checked your site and noticed you’ve activated the Spotlight mode for the Editor.
Here’s how to deactivate it:
- Open any post for editing
- Click on the 3-dots button (top-right)
- Click the “Preferences” (the last item in the menu)
- Click the “Appearance” from the sidebar
- Click the “Spotlight mode” toggle to deactivate it
- Close the Preferences dialog

Hi there,
I followed the steps and deactivated the Spotlight mode, but it still shows a black screen. Could this have anything to do with how old this WordPress site is? I opened it in 2011. My newer WordPress site which I opened in 2016 doesn’t have this problem.

I believe the issue may not be related to when you started the site but rather the age of the theme you’re currently using.
On WordPress.com, we retired the Twenty Ten theme in 2017, long before the block editor was even in development. My assumption is that this theme might not be fully compatible with the latest versions of WordPress, despite it being the original “default” theme.
If you’re open to it, and keeping in mind that you won’t be able to revert back to Twenty Ten, could you try switching to a different theme to see if the problem persists? I was going to check your other site’s theme, but it seems you only have one under your @yeuxrotos user account.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions before attempting a theme switch – we’re here to assist you!
