Black line at top of site to advertise getting a new site

  There is a black line at the top of my Welcome Page.
  How do I get rid of it?

  Hi there, do you mean the ad about creating a WordPress.com site? There’s a black line just below that, but if you mean something else, let us know.

  If you are referring to the ad, note all free hosted sites have ads of some kind or another: they help us cover our operating costs. You can get rid of ads with a paid plan:
