Black screen

I am trying to write a new post, but the bottom half of the page is all black and impossible to remove. When I write, the writing appears but is barely visible. Plus I have been able to continue on my phone, but the paragraphs I have written on the phone do not appear here on the desktop version.

I’m having the same issue with my site – martinrobb.wordpress.com. When I try to access the draft on another device, the screen is completely blank. Reassuring to know I’m not the only one experiencing this, but what a nuisance! Hope we get an answer soon.

Are you both using the Safari browser?
There’s a known issue with the editor in Safari, and it’s with the WordPress software itself, so not only on WordPress.com. The folks over on WordPress.org are working on fixing it, but until it’s fixed you might need to use a different browser like Firefox or Chrome instead.

I must admit that I am finding the new block editor very confusing. Yes I use Safari, on my desktop but I also use it on my iPhone and there’s no problem there. My blog consists mainly of writing with a few photos inserted and I find the new editor difficult to use. I wax thinking it might be the Hero thing they’ve added – no idea what it is – that I might have clicked on. Any ideas on how to remove it?

Can you let us know what “hero” thing you’re referring to? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

It’s down the left-hand side of the Block Editor when you click on the + sign. A whole list of options are displayed. The icon “Hero” is displayed under the heading Design. I had no idea what it was, but might have clicked on it to see (I am having enormous problems with the new Block Editor). Since I did that, the whole lower half of my post that I was writing is black and there is no way to remove it. I can carry on typing and the writing appears, but black on black. I have tried opening a new draft post but the same black screen appears. This has occurred on my desk top computer, which is where I do most of my writing. It has not appeared on either my phone or tablet. Also additions to the text that I make on my phone do not appear on the desk computer. Thank you.

You’re referring to the Hero block which is not associated with the issue you’re having.
Please use a different browser until this issue is fixed.
