Blank comments with Youtube urls and trouble saving edits
-
I have a new problem with pasting video urls in the old “classic” semi-functioning editor.
For example, this blog post needs 5 urls added. So, I added the first one, and then clicked “Update”. It did not save the edit and it took me to the All Posts folder.
So, I do it again, and it does save my edit.
Next url to edit, after clicking “Update”, it does the same thing as the first time: Not saving; brings me to the All Posts folder.
I click the back button on my browser to get to the older blog post that I am attempting to edit.
I do this again for the other edits and it continues to not save the edit, and goes to the All Posts folder. So I repeat action and then it does save.
So, why do I have to edit everything twice before it works?
To be more clear, I am copying Youtube urls from the comment section for the editing. These comments show up empty/blank, even though they have urls in them.
I’m using Firefox 31 and Windows 7.
It seems to be a copy/paste issue but only for those posts that I copied from the comment section below the blog post in the classic editor.
I found a work-around for this technical problem with pasting youtube urls from the comment section.
I “update” the comment and add a letter and a space before the url and then the comment shows the link and I copy it and paste it into the blog post and it saves properly.
Don’t know if adding Youtube urls in the “new, too-blue, BBB” editor works or not. The first time I tried it, the url showed up as a hyperlink instead of embedding the video.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
I’m not very clear on how to replicate the issue, although I did notice that comments that contain only a Youtube URL show up blank in the comments moderation page and the comments section in the post editor. Can you please give me some detailed steps to replicate the main issue at hand? I’m not sure if you were working on an existing post or creating a new one. If you can clear that up, that would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for responding, druesome.
The comments are left by readers on published posts. I don’t know how someone could comment on an unpublished post.
My helpers are looking up urls for missing videos on older posts (2008-2011). They copy and paste the mostly Youtube video urls and put them on the blog posts that need to have the video coding changed. I used Vodpod for several years and now they are no longer in business so the coding does not work, leaving over 4,000 blog posts without videos.
The blank comments started Aug. 21 when they left the urls in the comment section.
When I tried to copy and paste the urls from the comments having to click “Quick Edit” to see the urls, that is when the Saved Updates stopped working. See above original comment that I left to start this thread.
I can copy and paste the urls from the actual videos, no problem. Also, with the work-around of adding a letter and a space before the url so that the entire comment shows up (no longer blank) works.
I have asked my helpers to do the work-around, although sometimes they forget.

OK, just edited an older blog post with comments left by me with the 2 urls for the videos to be replaced. I’m using the “old, classic” editor.
When I left the comments (Youtube video urls), the url turned into an embedded video for both comments.
On the edit page of the blog post, the comments are blank. I clicked on Quick Edit to see the comments and copied from there and pasted the urls into the post. Made a couple other minor edits then clicked Update.
That is when the page went back to All Posts not the edited post I was working on.
I go to the post again, and find that nothing was saved.
There was a link to an Autosave post at the top, so I clicked it, and reviewed the edits/changes and restored the Autosave as the edits were listed there.
The post now has the edits. The videos are embedded.
However, this is not very convenient. It’s just another work-around.

Hi there! Very sorry about the delay. I was able to see both problems regarding the Youtube comments not showing up, as well as posts not saving while Quick Edit is active. These have been reported and are pending for a fix by our developers. I’ll be sure to come back with updates when they become available.
As a workaround for the Quick Edit issue, what you can do is copy the Youtube URL and press the Cancel button right after. This allows you to save the post normally without redirecting to the All Posts page.
Let me know if that helps. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks again, druesome.
Your work-around of clicking Cancel in the Quick Edit after copying the url worked. That’s easier to do than the work-around I previously used.
Still looking forward to a fix, though.

Glad it worked! It’s a long weekend for some of our staff, so we might not get a fix until tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks again, druesome, really appreciate your efforts on this kind of strange technical glitch.
Happy Labor Day! Hope the workers have the day off.

Hey there, not a problem! Glad to report that the Youtube glitch has been fixed by our devs. Can you kindly confirm this on your blog as I have?
As for the Quick Edit bug, that one is still pending as of my last check. Thank you!

Thanks again, druesome. Just checked it out and it worked fine by copying directly from the comment section of the editor.
No need to do the Quick Edit anymore.
