Blank Home Page Created by Accident
-
All was fine until I must have hit a wrong button. Now my blog shows a second home page, entirely blank except for a message “Nothing Found”. I can’t even try to edit it (nothing to edit), and it’s not even under “All Pages”. I have a feeling that WordPress has a new way to create pages, and I’m stuck there somehow. I’m desperate!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) A static front page and posts on a different page.By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Posts page:Creating a custom menu
Pages and posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ are not the same.Pages (static) https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and category pages (dynamic) https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/ are not the same.
Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
(1) there is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update.Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags to will update automatically update with new posts.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menusRead this carefully http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/
There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well.

TT….thanks for responding, you’re always very prompt.
I apologize, I didn’t frame my question well because I’m so upset I may have seriously screwed up. All I want to do is delete that first (of two) home pages on my site. If I go to Edit pages, that extra (which is blank) home page is not there….so I can’t trash it. The correct home page is there, and the site works correctly, I’ve just got an extra blank home page on the opening screen that doesn’t belong there.

You cannot delete the Home page provided by the software. You can only delete Home pages that you created. You can create a custom menu and include only the Home page that you created in it.

TT….I’m sorry, I’m sure it’s my fault we’re not connecting.
I don’t know how this new home page got created…I didn’t knowingly create it. But it’s a blank page, it shows nowhere in my list of pages, so I can’t edit it, delete it, or anything else. It only exists on the opening screen. I use free WP. Are you able to look on my opening screen and see what I mean? I can’t even think of a work-around. Do I have to abandon the site and start anew?

That would be because the HOME page on any blog is meant to be the page that all published posts appear on and that means the page itself cannot be edited.
All you can do is what I already posted so let’s review it.

NO! DO NOT DELETE THE BLOG.
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

I tagged this thread for Staff assistance because you are not getting the fact that you need to create a static front page using the HOME page that you created.
Please subscribe to this thread you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Hey there @webmaster2525!
@timethief was spot on about all she said. However, I have one other suggestion.
What if you copied all of your content from your “correct” Home page and pasted it into the other Home page? You could then delete the incorrect Home page and create a new, seperate page for just your posts.
Maybe this will solve your problem. Have a great day!

TT….I think I got it, I think I got it !!! I went to Settings>Reading and changed the “latest posts” button (I don’t recall changing it the other day) to “static” , chose Home for front page, Select for posts page, and all now seems well….the blank extra Home page has disappeared. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you !!!!!!!
