Blank notifications from WordPress in Outlook 2007
-
This is common to my own blog [above] as well as my other blogs plus ones I’m subscribed to – I now receive emails with BLANK bodies where I used to receive notifications or copies of the posted blog.
At one stage I tried to reset a “forgotten” password – absolutely pointless as the email from:
WordPress.com [(email visible only to moderators and staff)] had a subject of: [WordPress.com] Password Reset …The reason it was pointless? – the body of the email was BLANK!
I ticked to be notified of followup posts via e-mail below but I presume they will be blank as well.Perhaps you could send me an email directly to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Although emails are now blank in Outlook, those emails automatically transferred to my gmail account look like code – example can be provided
After I submitted this problem I got a screen that said TOPIC CLOSED !
I had tried SUPPORT as well as FORUMS – not sure if this will have any further success.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Susie,
That is very strange! Is there any way that I could get the full headers from those blank emails from you? Perhaps with a screenshot of the blank email? It would help in diagnosing what is going wrong here.
Here’s how to view message headers in Outlook according to Microsoft:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/view-e-mail-message-headers-HA001230300.aspx#BM2
And here’s how to take a screenshot in case you’re not familiar with the process:
Thanks so much in advance!

Hi – I have 3 MS Word documents containing screen captures, email headers etc. giving examples of when they worked and when they didn’t – how do I send / attach these documents?
Regards ……….. Susie Z -
If you could just upload them to your Media Library and let me know what they’re called I can take a look at them there!
Thank you very much!

Hi Suzie,
There was one more question, and I’m really sorry to ask after you’ve gone to bed but it will help narrow down what is going wrong:
Do you have a webmail client through your email provider that you could check your email? I just was hoping you could log on and see if they’re showing as blank there too or if it was just an Outlook thing.
Thanks!

Interesting observation – LIKE notifications still appear to be coming through OK.
FourthSetOfExamples.docx
This file includes Blank Outlook Notification & Headers, same one in Webmail with Headers and same one in GMAIL. Also example of LIKE notification that is working fine. … Susie

I should add that I have several friends with WordPress sites and who also follow my site and others – all have identical problems so they’re relying on me to find an answer! :-)
-
That’s interesting to hear that your friends are having the same issue. Do they happen to be on the same email provider as you are?
And again, to verify (since your screenshot wasn’t clear), are the blank emails blank in your webmail interface as well as on Outlook, or only in Outlook?
Thanks for clarifying for me!

Uploaded:
FourthWebmail.jpg
FourthWebmailFullHeader.jpgWebmail wasn’t blank but not useful!
The ISP was the first thing I looked at – every different ISP you could think of was in the mix – absolutely no common denominator except Outlook [different versions of MS Office -2003, 2007 etc].
The discovery last night that LIKES come through perfectly seems that Outlook is only part of the issue, otherwise I wouldn’t be seeing LIKES in the format that I used to see other Notifications including POSTS.
Hope that helps …. Susie

No, no! It just helps us to narrow down what is being affected is all. Thanks for providing that additional information.
One last question: When did all of this start happening? It’s clear from the screenshots that you’ve provided that it used to work, can you give me a date when it stopped?
-
As far as I can narrow it down, everything appeared to be working on 6 March this year.
I had a gap in WordPress notifications – the next one was 30 March and it wasn’t working. The only thing working since 6 March were LIKEs – they kept coming through just fine.
I’ve uploaded a snapshot of programs installed in date order – most recent first … PROGSInstalled.jpg …
Unfortunately from experience this can be deceiving as updates to things that have regular updates only show up in more recent installs – i.e. Adobe Flash Player etc. – and definitely wouldn’t show up if there was a major upgrade for example in early March – they only show up until late June which certainly isn’t when they were first installed.

Thanks for being patient with this entire process. I’ve been taking all the things we’ve been talking about to our developers and they are looking in to the issue. As soon as I have any additional information for you I will let you know!

Hi Susie,
I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Our developers have looked through this issue and were not able to find anything wrong with our notification emails. We also have not gotten any other reports of emails being blank (in Outlook or in any other email client). At this point, we do not have anything else which we are able to try, I’m afraid. You may want to consider trying a different email client or using the online web-based client which you said before is working OK.
I’m sorry that we were unable to find a solution to this issue for you.

I’m not the only one with this problem – just google a few keywords and there are plenty …
There is no way I can be the only person experiencing this problem!

This problem first “appeared” [or disappeared to be more correct] between 6 March and 30 March this year [2014].
I was still receiving blank notifications on Tuesday 26 August but on Thursday 28 August the notifications were back to normal – including formatted / boxed layout, colour gravatar and coloured and highlighted text in the box.
I’m hoping this isn’t a one-off – will try to update my WordPress blogs in the next day or two and see if the fix sticks – I really hope so!
