Blask CSS remove tags, more widgets, less white space
-
Hi there,
Is it possible to add further widgets to the Blask theme, under the menu or to the right hand side of posts etc?
Do keyword tags need to show so prominently? Or can I hide them with some CSS?
Is it possible to reduce the white space between portfolio images, so that the images join – like the Photoblog theme by Automattic? I would LOVE to try that theme out, but it is impossible to demo other themes in Customizer due to my current portfolio page.
Finally, I am on the premium plan, am I missing out on some great features found in premium portfolio themes. Would you recommend a premium theme for my content, rather than customizing Blask?
Thank you

I don’t know. I’m trying to fix the same issue. Apparently it’s padding or something. Could do with a way of using custom CSS to change block colour juxtaposition.

Hi @amandalakeyart, you can add more widgets to the footer widget area on your site at Customize > Widgets.
No, tags do not have to show promenently, we can hide them with custom CSS, but they will still be there for the search engines to find and use. The following remove the tags from your blog page, archive type pages (date archive, tags and categories pages) and also from the single post pages.
.blog .tags-links, .single .tags-links, .archive .tags-links { display: none; }On the portfolio projects, the positioning of the portfolio items on Blask is calculated by the theme software, and then the positions for each of the items is actually put directly into the html, and if you widen or narrow your browser window, the software will recalculate the positions continually to keep the items aligned properly. That is the long way of saying that no, we cannot tighten the spacing with CSS.
As far as other portfolio themes go, it may be that another one would work better for you. You might want to have a look here at the 50 we offer that support Portfolios.

Thank you Sacred Path, I have added the CSS which works fine.
I have checked out Portfolio themes, Creative Portfolio – We Cobble looks very polished, but it would require a lot of work to convert my existing theme I think. It’s very difficult to tell really, as customizer doesn’t let me view what my portfolio would look like.
I worry about messing up my site for visitors at this stage, so in order to test out another theme and get everything looking good, is there any way to do this with a premium theme without activating? I would want people to see my current theme whilst I sort it all out.
I considered opening a test site, but I understand it would require me to purchase premium options for it – not an option.I also have a question about the CSS I’m currently using on Blask. Would the codes still work if I changed themes and added them again to a new theme?
Thank you again for your help :)

Unfortunately, at this time, there is no way to preview and work on another theme while keeping your main site live with the current theme. I’m hoping that will be an option later on, I know there have been discussions on that.
CSS is theme specific. There can be some CSS selectors that are common to themes, but each theme may set things differently on those elements, so any custom CSS from a previous theme may have unintended consequences, so it is always best to start from scratch when switching to another theme.
On a test site, yes, it would require upgrading it to Premium in order to do customizations “offline” so to speak. Again, hopefully that will change in the future although I have absolutely no idea when it will, or might happen.

Ok, I appreciate your advice.
I really do hope they do incorporate some functionality for this in the future. I already have a premium plan, and shouldn’t need to purchase a second premium plan just to demo and polish a new theme, and then have to copy all the settings back.
My problem is going to be switching from my current portfolio. It appears that using a new theme I would need to create a new portfolio page and publish them all over again. Plus then asking for the CSS for various things which could take days in the forums – unless there is an option to contact you/staff more directly?
I guess my only option would be to make my site private whilst I switched themes, so I’ll have a think about it and perhaps wait until I have some more time on my hands.
Thanks once again Sacred Path.
