Blask Masonry image gallery – how do you'vertical' adjust, and make bigger

  • Unknown's avatar

I just tested the behavior of the Blask image gallery options.

Would like to make it ‘vertical adjust’ to the TOP.

Also, want to make the images bigger, just like in Gallery option.

    Anyone have an idea? thanks

    Hi there,

The Masonry image gallery block actually does vertically align the images to the top by default, but the rest of the gallery type blocks do not have an option to change vertical alignment.

The group block (non-image block), however, does have a vertical alignment setting, so if you add different galleries or singular images inside a group block, you’ll be able to change vertical alignment.

As for the bigger images in Masonry, there are two options – “Large” and “Extra large” and you used that, for example, in the “Project 5” portfolio project. There are also group blocks, so you probably also know about vertical alignment setting for a group block.

If you aren’t getting the desired layout, design, or a look, perhaps you might try searching some other themes – there are many themes made specifically for portfolio type of web sites. See here the info about themes search:

I hope this will help you.

    Have a great day!

    Hi,
me again – just an addendum to my previous reply:

In the theme search, when you type “portfolio”, please choose the “Portfolio: Themes that support WordPress’ portfolio post type …” or “Portfolio: Displays portfolio projects that showcase creative work.” suggestions – this will make a search more precise and it will show themes with better portfolio support.
Please note that when a theme is switched, you’ll need to set up a project listing page template to a portfolio template again.

    Cheers

    Hi Alensirola69,

Thanks so much for responding. I checked out all the links you sent.

Unfortunately, the group functions doesn’t work for what I need. Though, I did a lot of sampling, and trial and error, cause I found wordpress behaviors of layouts pretty much stays within a set number of pixels, no matter how many columns or items going across horizontally. The more images you load, the more smaller the get going across.

The ‘Gallery’ image display allows you to spread images out horizontally, like the Columns, though unfortunately, when you add a lot of images, the program of the gallery makes the images line up in “its” order, not the order you want, and lines them up in a ‘unified’ and ‘organized’ block display, instead of the more masonry look.

Though, after a lot of experimentation with the “columns” function, the most real estate for images would be 3- columns/layout grid, or 4 for smaller, are sufficient for a proper Gallery image display, and keeping the ‘crop’ function ‘on’ is the only way to give the ‘vertical alignment’ look. It can group images, and it looks the most like the Blask Portfolio page template / Masonry display.

The only problem now with the ‘gallery’ function, is that its not ‘cropping’ (see Project 8) the images very well here and there, and the ‘crop’ button is “ON”. If there’s no way of fixing it, I’ll just adjust my images and play with it to make sure it doesn’t do it.

Thanks so much for all your help.

    Hi,

The image cropping in the gallery depends on the image size and orientation (portrait, landscape, square). If you switch off the “Crop images” in Gallery Block settings, the image will display un-cropped, but that means you might have gaps between them (again, depending on size and orientation).

Images order can be changed in the gallery – when clicked on the image, two arrows pop-out (as well as “x” to remove the image) and you can rearrange images order.

And – yes, if you’re adding more columns (or images) in the layout, those are getting smaller and smaller because of layout limited width. This is how this theme is built. There are some themes that utilize the full-width layout.

I hope this will help you and you’ll manage to create great-looking image gallery layouts! :)

    Have a great day!
